An Ode to Wanaka — it’s still my favourite place on Earth.

‘Midst tranquil water and majestic peaks Lies Wanaka — a place to getaway. Frolicking outdoors, smiles etched into cheeks - Content and carefree; siblings, friends did play.
We basked in the sun, fearless of its rays, Ate bread-wrapped bangers with tomato sauce. Walked dusty roads in jandals to the Bay, Lost in naiveté with unknown course.
No Web to distract, just the sun and lake Seldom whining for more, or being glum. Daring, uncorrupt — oh how my heartaches; Swimming, cricket — and home-baking by Mum.
The lake still sparkles, the mountains stand tall Childhood days of Summer — the best of all.
I wrote this poem for a sonnet challenge on Vocal Media, based on a Summer’s Day. Wanaka is in beautiful Central Otago on the South Island of my home country, New Zealand.
