An Ode to the Women in My Life
Coz Women’s Day is a fair excuse to get a bit corny
I’ll start where it all started, In your womb — my first abode. The time you had a minor scare, When the doctor couldn’t find a heartbeat.
Yet I came into this world, A little dramatic, but healthy and alive. And from then on began a bond, A tale of both nature and nurture.
Nature is you, nurture is you, So a large part of who I am is you. Thank you for making me the man I am, Hopefully, a version you can be proud of.
The second woman I’ve known, For as long as I’ve lived is my sister. She was jealous at first, Or possessive is probably the right word.
I’d have all the love in the world, But only through her. She’d gather everyone’s love, And then funnel it to me.
Today, she’s one of the kindest people I know, Hell-bent on creating a better world. And my biggest accomplishment in my mind, Is that I know she’s quite proud of me!
Last, but in no way the least, Is my dearest wife. The other half that completed me, After a quarter-of-a-century-long search.
She’s loving, and she’s caring, And the smartest woman I know. I don’t often admit things like these in public, I surely got lucky in this union.
If it is at all possible to improve on perfection, She makes me want to be a better man. She’s also given me the biggest joy ever, Our son, who’s now his own little man.
Had I been asked to describe the perfect mother, sister, or wife, I hardly believe I could’ve gotten close to what I have. So I’m thankful for them on this day, And wish my bonds with them, always stay this way!
