An Ode to Ms Eddie

On the first anniversary of her passing

A year ago today, we had to say our last goodbyes When I recount that moment, tears well in my eyes You’d lived a happy life and to a good age It had been sixteen years since we rescued you from that cage

Your ginger and white hues instantly melted my heart The prettiest fluffball you were from the start Eagar for cuddles, scritches and strokes on your fur Love reciprocated with your guttural, deep purr

You were Queen of the land, most of your life Not impressed with Booboo — he caused you some strife A ratbag he was, trying to steal your throne But with a hiss or a swat, he’d usually leave you alone

The last year had been a struggle as old age crept in You were mortified when you missed the litter bin We hated seeing you disgraced, hiding in shame Now, all we have left are pictures in frames

You are terribly missed and still loved very much Our sad hearts are reminiscent of your furry touch Although Bubba has arrived, no cat could ever replace you And I am pretty sure you’re now smirking at Booboo.

Although you are gone, we will never forget you Your feline glory; your ginger and white hue Rest in peace, dear Eddie. You really were the best You’ll always be part of our family, even at rest
