An October Moon
October Six Word Photo Story Challenge: Scary
Waiting for the witch to cross.
It seems only to be October where the moon sits at just the right level with the trees and is the perfect size for the silhouette of a witch on a broomstick to cross. But it’s less the image than the history behind it that sends a shiver down my spine.
Its first known appearance was in the 15th century. Benign enough in the 21st century, its story tracks a violent history interlaced with superstition, torture, and oppression of women. It is little wonder that many took refuge in hallucinogenic drugs.
