An Introduction to “Time Compartments” and “Time-Stretching” for Happiness
How to get more out of an hour, a minute, and a second every day to make you a happier person
Divide your day into “Time-compartments”. Keep an allotted amount of time in the “early morning compartment” for yourself and your family at home, before you set off for work. Keep the next part of your day in the “work-compartment” for your work time, when you focus every hour on a particular project.
After work ends you can focus on the” family, home and friends time-compartment” when you spend time relaxing at home with your family and friends at the end of the day. At night, keep time aside even half an hour would be sufficient for your “meditation-time compartment” when you review your day.
1. Start by dividing your day into time compartments. These do not need to be very clearly defined time slots. Time compartments need to be kept in mind during the course of a day.
2. Block out any distractions in each compartment of your day, so that your time compartments are not disrupted.
3. Use the question, “What can I do about this issue right now?”, as you will need to solve issues in each time compartment, to the best of your abilities.
4. Act thoughtfully and thoroughly to complete the job that you are doing in the present time compartment. Stay positive, friendly, understanding, and thoughtful to all those around you, as you work.
5. In each time compartment of a day, focus on one job at a time. Being focused on one task at a time, while doing it to the best of your ability, will make you more efficient and productive.
6. A list of efficiency techniques and tools, tailor-made for you, will assist you in doing maximum in every time-compartment.
7. Always remember that other people do not know about your time management method of time-compartments, so be patient and understanding with your family, friends, and co-workers.
“Time-Stretching” is the mental action or process of altering the duration of action, reaction, of an event without changing the emotions and experiences evoked by that moment in time.
Stretching time is possible by developing more self-awareness, a novel mental approach, with a sense of purpose and thoughtful action.
a. Time-stretching works well, when you know who you are, your priorities in life, your family, your work, your friends, and your environment.
b. A clock keeps perfect time. The experiences we have in time are filled with actions and emotions. Those moments of action, reaction, emotions, and experiences, we can control, relish and enjoy when we “stretch time”.
c. One moment seems to last a long time if you slow down in life. When you meditate, you will find that a single minute of sixty seconds seems like ten minutes when you embrace the thrill of letting your mind relax and live in the present. Listen to the sound of every breath you take as you meditate, you will then realize that “time does not fly”. You have an abundance of time to use and enjoy in life.
d. Ten minutes of meditation will feel like an hour as you go deeper and deeper into a meditative state of mind. Meditation is the technique to “stretch-time”, in your mind.
e. Seconds, minutes and hours blend into one and become a haze, as time seems to be infinite and you feel that you have spent an eternity in the meditation plane.
f. How would you measure a minute, is it one action, two actions, one breath, two breaths or is it one heart-beat or two heart-beats?
g. Let every experience last much longer, as that is what you want your mind to do. Re-live the sensations of sight, sound, smell, touch within your experience.
h. Allow the passage of time to change around you. Spend a day just looking at the clock, as a second turns into a minute and a minute turns into an hour and then several hours. You will be aware of the fact that there is a lot of time and it is really not limited.
i. Let the world speed past you as you relish the present for as long as you want. By allowing your mind to stay focussed on the present instant, you are stretching your experience of time.
j. Moments in time are precious, so make them last longer. Make a selection of two moments in time and relive them at different speeds in your mind. Firstly, go through the memory at the usual speed, then speed up the same memory, later slow down the memory. You are now controlling time, instead of being controlled by it.
k. Perception is what makes our minds believe in anything. The way in which we perceive time needs to change. We need to perceive time as a unit of measurement, into which we can cram so many of our life experiences for us to enjoy, as we extend every moment in our minds.
l. Observe, listen, feel the presence of time and make the presence of stretching time a reality in your mind. Enlighten your mind to the fact that time can be stretched, if we perceive time as never-ending and infinite.
m. Speed an experience in your mind, then slow that same experience down and observe the difference. You can control the sensation of living in time, which is infinite.
n. Observe everything around you in slow motion. You are slowing time in your mind once again.
o. Cultivating patience is an important factor as you control the experience of “time-stretching”. Learning to be patient and remain calm stretches time and relieves stress. Impulses are controlled by cultivating patience. By becoming a Time Master, you are also controlling your impulses, your awareness, and your existence in this life experience.
