An Evening Stroll in the Charming Cobourg Town and Marina Area
Several weeks ago, on a weekend afternoon, my father-in-law was utterly bored and was about to get out of his house to get a coffee. Of course, he didn't mention Tim Hortons, but we all knew where he was going.
My mother-in-law asked, 'Why can't we all get out, go for a drive outside Toronto, while sipping the Tims!' I jumped from my seat and uttered, 'Can we!'
I was bored to death that weekend too, so it was a more lucrative offer for me!
And, so around 6.30 pm time, we started towards Cobourg.
A Brief introduction to the town
Cobourg is approximately 95 km east of Toronto and on the lakeshore between Toronto and Kingston. On their website, this place is termed as 'Ontario's Feel Good Town,' and MoneySense Magazine recognized it multiple times as 'One of Canada's Best Places to Live'with populations under 25,000.
This place has a charming downtown (with a small-town setting) and a beautiful (renowned) marina. Along with the quaint shops and flowery scented breeze, the historic buildings with their elegant architecture will welcome you to explore.
The town's major attractions are 18th-century Victoria Hall (inaugurated by the then Young Prince of Wales, the future King Edward VII, named after his mother, Queen Victoria) and the incredible waterfront.
Our short trip
When we reached there, it was almost evening time. The sun was setting on the horizon, and the evening bagpipe's tune was announcing the end of the day at the marina.
We walked on the trail next to the marina and explored the nearby area on the shoreline. The marina had many sailboats anchored on the dockside, and their reflection on the lake water created some stunning impressions (I could capture some of those).
The lighthouse on the far corner, a sandy beach with few people around, while the evening darkness hovered onto, created a sad feeling at first! However, the dawn also brought an illusionary sense, combining the lake waves, the 'returning birds' chirp, and the sound of the kids playing on the beach! In addition, we saw a few sailboats gliding against the horizon in the evening light exposures!
I saw my wife and mother-in-law taking snaps, capturing moments of their time in Cobourg.
My bored father-in-law had already finished his large double-double coffee. As a world-renowned hiker (kidding, he hates walking), he was getting impatient while walking on the beach!
So, he returned to the beach entrance and sat on a bench to avoid the hassle.
The night emerged fully; hence we said goodbye to lake Ontario and returned to the parking lot. When we first parked our car, we saw a musical group performing in front of a restaurant, but we couldn't stay around that time. As they were still performing while we returned to the parking lot, we stayed there for a couple of minutes more to hear the beautiful muse that was wholly synced with the charming little town vibe!
