This is part of a story that works as an interactive game. You’ll need to have some paper and dice at the ready! Click here for the beginning of the Medium Adventurers League. You can also go back to the previous chapter. Or return to the start of this quest: The Elf Queen’s Temptation.

She may be a captive right now, but Queen Arriana has to have piles of cash back home. You decide to help her — but for a price.

“What’s it worth to you?” you ask. “To get you back safely, I mean?”

She raises an eyebrow. “A mercenary, is it? Well, I respect someone that knows how to negotiate. I promised a reward, and you shall have it. Through elven magic.”

She mutters an incantation and wiggles her fingers. As she does so, you feel a newfound confidence run through your body.

Add +1 to your charm statistic. This is permanent.

“And I tell you what,” she adds, as the two of you walk on. “I’ll make sure that people know what you did for me today, and what a badass mercenary you are. You’re certainly not someone to be taken lightly!”

Subtract 1 from your reputation score.

“Thanks, I guess,” you growl.

Just then Queen Arriana spins round and looses an arrow. A bandit had been approaching, and now he falls, clutching his chest and gurgling.

“Search him,” she says. “And then we need to get moving.”

You hurry over to the bandit, rifling through his pockets and money pouch. You find:

14 silver pieces
an emerald
a torch
leather armor (add +1 to health if you decide to wear this)

As the darkness of night falls, you and Queen Arriana leave the last of the Deadwood, and hurry on. You don’t talk much, and you don’t discuss future plans. You only want one thing.

It’s the early hours of the morning when she stops and looks around. You are in an area of light forest, lit by moonlight. “It’s a long way to the Feyblades,” she says. “And I think I’m safe to continue alone, now. We are past the Deadwood, and the great Goblin Camp is also behind us now. I know these forest trails, and can proceed safely on my own.

“But my…” you begin.

She holds one finger up to your lips. “Don’t worry, mercenary,” she says. “You’ll get your payment. I’ll see to it. Take this note, and give it to Yorrick.”

She wiggles her fingers again, and conjures a piece of parchment with a note in elvish. She hands it to you. It has a similar texture and appearance to the note that described this quest in the first place. You put it in your pocket without further questions.

“There are people there that owe me. Now, follow that path. Soon you will see your guild hall.” She points to a path that runs up towards the mountains from where you are.

You nod. “Farewell, your Majesty.”

Queen Arriana runs off alone, and you go in the opposite direction. It’s almost dawn when you finally get back to the guild. When you do, you pass the magical note to Yorrick, and within a few minutes, you have your money.

You gain 50 silver pieces

Then, you straight away take a room for the night.
