CAN AN OPINION BE ONE-SIDED?

An Editor Said My Article on “Why Women Love Women” was Too One-sided

Was it my writing or my politics?

One of the [many] things I have learned is the more you write the better your writing. However, it took me till I was 51 years old before I was brave enough to write in public. I know my writing is still a “work in progress,” but I’m really doing it!

Can’t get better planning on writing, you have to write!

I’m not talking about it, I’m not planning it! I’m actually writing every day! That’s the key right?

I write about parenting, social issues, life, Medium, and a wide variety of brain junk. I don’t even know what to call my writing. I’m still learning about my “lane.”

What I’m saying is, I know I have a long way to go on my writing. I need to allow myself more time to edit and be ahead so I’m not rushing to write, edit and submit on the same day.

I know I’m going to make mistakes and I welcome constructive criticism.

I actually appreciate it when an editor leaves me a note on my articles. If they’re positive — it is validating and if it’s a correction or request for clarity, it’s like a safety net. I also appreciate when other members on Medium kindly point out typos or missing information.

This is all helpful, vital, and extremely encouraging. If I were still just reading or planning I wouldn’t be getting feedback, right?

Still, it’s always important to remember Medium is social media. It’s important we communicate as best we can. Understand editors like the rest of us are of all backgrounds, work schedules, this isn’t their “paid job,” they’re volunteers and many other situations.

I’m not complaining about the editor, the publication, or anything. I just didn’t understand the comment and I thought I’d ask the Medium Community.

I absolutely love most of the messages I receive from other members here. Some of you have literally brought so much encouragement into my world, I struggle to find words enough to express the magnitude of gratitude in my responses.

Being open to positive and negative feedback is vital in any position. If you are a content creator of any kind, you have to be able to accept feedback. It’s how you grow.

I replied back to the editor and asked what about my article was “one-sided?” I haven’t heard back yet. So I’m asking you if you’ll read my article and let me know what you think?

You tell me, was it my writing or the subject matter? Let me know in the comments. Thank you for spending your time with me! Have an amazing day!
