An Easy Whole Grain Substitute
A healthier and delicious alternative for white flour

I’m not a fan of depriving myself or my kids of treats as it tends to lead to, well, feeling deprived. I believe including some treats is part of a healthy diet. And whenever possible, I make them a bit on the healthier side.
Years back, I found a recipe for banana bread on Dr. Weil’s site. He uses whole wheat pastry flour — a whole grain substitute for refined flour. We can’t tell the difference; it’s one of our family favorites.
I always double the recipe — and with 9 kids, it never lasts. It’s easy, delicious, and a perfect companion to a warm cup of herbal tea — though my kids prefer hot chocolate.
I’ve modified the recipe over the years. My favorite addition is cinnamon, as it’s full of delicious flavor and antioxidants.
