Abstract

Something exciting is happening!

With so much uncertainty around which publications are here to stay, we want to make sure our writers know we aren’t going anywhere. So…drumroll, please…

We’re holding our first writing challenge in the month of October!

Unwritten Journal is about nine months old and when I first started this publication, I didn’t really think it would catch on. I was totally wrong. To date, we have over 100 writers and over 200 followers.

So many of you have shared some wonderful stories, and that’s what has made Unwritten Journal such an amazing culmination of unique articles you can’t find anywhere else. And we want more!

The writing challenge is simple: publish a story with us during the month of October about one of the below topics and tag “Unwritten Journal Contest” to ensure we know it’s part of the contest, then use one of the below tags to help us identify the topic you’re writing about.

  • Love — whether it be a loving friendship, romantic relationship, or love of a family member, share a story with us about that love. How has it changed over the years? How has it been challenged? How has it shaped you?
  • Parenting — share a story about your life as a parent. Maybe a hard time you went through or how becoming a parent has changed you. What have you learned through parenting? What wisdom can you share with others that are new parents or will be soon?
  • This happened to me — write about an experience you’ve had or a situation you’ve found yourself in and what you learned from it. How did that experience or situation change you? Did it change you for the better?
  • Health/Mental Health — share a story with us that relates to either physical or mental health. Have you gone on a wellness journey recently? What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them? Or maybe you’ve been focused on your mental health. How have you dealt with obstacles related to that and how do you cope from day to day?

Rules:

  1. Limit of one article per topic per writer
  2. Story must be an unpublished draft that was submitted to our publication between Oct. 1 and Oct. 31st
  3. Story must be related to one of the four topics outlined above and include the appropriate tags mentioned (Unwritten Journal Contest and topic tag)

At the end of October, Sean F Corbin and I will review the submissions and choose our top picks for each category. We’re looking for stories that really resonate and share something meaningful with the reader, but don’t forget the premise of this publication: be real, be authentic, and share some of you with us!

As always, submissions should be italicized to mimic that of a journal entry. Please also be sure to proofread your work, as grammatical errors take so much away from great articles.

The winning articles will be featured within an article announcing the winners and on a special page of our publication!

Happy writing!
