An Amazing Adventure Awaits: 3 Ways to Break Your Routine
Explore your surroundings

“There’s only one place I want to go, and it’s to all the places I’ve never been.” ― Nikki Rowe
It was a day of local adventure for me yesterday. The sunshine was out in full force, and it inspired me to explore. On my 100-day journey studying habits, routines and creativity, this day brought immense joy.
The summer of 2019 was the last time we had a grand adventure. We went on a trip of a lifetime to Japan. I remember every morning waking up, feeling as if it were a dream.
This time, I am seeking adventure close to home. It has been a little over a year since the pandemic started. Every day we get closer to being able to venture out again.
Until then, I found new things close to home.
I love routines, habits, and keeping things neat and organized. However, there is nothing better than getting out of a rut and finding something new.
I remember my English teacher Mrs. Sawyer telling us to fill our lives with adventure. That always stuck with me, along with picturing her big smile.
As I tell you the story of yesterday, here are three things you can do to break your routine.
Seek Out A Little Independent Place:
Lately, it has become a hobby and a career to seek out local food and drink places. I make long lists of fun spots I see while driving along or ones that I find online.
I visit them, try their food and drinks, and then write local articles about them for News Break. My food adventure hobby has become more than a pastime. It is so much fun that it hardly seems like work to me.
I love to observe how passionate local shop owners are about their craft. They love what they do, and it shows. It is such a beautiful thing to highlight them in my articles.
It is an opportunity to break my routine.
I take a break in my day to check out a coffee or tea place, and suddenly I feel as though I have been on a mini-vacation.
I invite you to explore your area and find that little coffee kiosk you always drive by or that sandwich shop that piques your curiosity.
How can you break your routine by exploring around you?
Treat Yourself to Some Green:
I will readily admit that I have spring-fever. As the weather gets warmer, I want to spend all of my time outdoors.
As another part of my adventure yesterday, I visited a local store with herb plants on sale. The variety was astounding, and it was fun to learn all about the different plants.
I ended up taking home some orange mint, pineapple sage, thyme, and more to plant in my garden and pots on the patio.
Treating yourself to a few plants for your indoor or outdoor spaces can break your routine in a good way. Choose plants you have not grown before. They can get you out of your comfort zone.
How can you plant something new and create some greenery around you?
Do Things Out of Order:
I believe that habits and routines help establish order in our lives. However, we can get in a rut if we do the same thing day in and day out.
That is why each day, I experiment a bit with my routine. Sometimes I will decide to do some chores early in the day. Other times I will save them for later.
As creatives, I believe we are seeking freedom.
That can sometimes mean breaking the rules. I love to see what happens if I decide to do something different.
Recently, I have started to clean the bathroom in the morning after I get ready for the day. It saves me a lot of time on my cleaning routine later.
I have also started creating lots of drafts with just a quick starter headline, and I fill in the rest later. It saves me precious time, and it allows me to have more free time.
On my three writing days a week, I am ready to create my articles.
How can mixing up your routine help you find your creativity?
My prayer for you today is that you will find some fun in exploring your local area, plant something new and break away from your routine a bit.
