Book Prompt
An Abundance of Attempts to Find the Next Abundance of Katherines
My attempt at reliving the magic of one of my favorite books

The latest book prompt by Marrisa W. asks us to think about a book we wish we could read for the first time again. I thought this over and had a few options, but none of them seemed quite right. Any Stephen King book? Not really. Christopher Moore? I kind of accidentally did this with Practical Demonkeeping already. And then inspiration hit.
I loved An Abundance of Katherines by John Green. It is in the list of my 20 favorite books at the link below.
An Abundance of Katherines tells the story of Colin Singleton, a child prodigy who is afraid of losing his genius as an adult. Colin has dated 19 girls, all named Katherine. After being dumped by the latest Katherine, he goes on a road trip with his best friend Hassan and along the way develops the “Theorem of Underlying Katherine Predictability” that determines the curve of any relationship based on several factors of the personality of the two people.
I loved the main character. I loved the best friend character even more. I love a good road trip story. It made me laugh. I loved it even though it had math in it. It was the perfect teen romance book and I’ve always said I read like a teenage girl.
I loved it so much that I couldn’t wait to get my hands on more John Green books. Every time he published a new book I would get very excited. I would get the book from the library and prepare myself to love it as much or more than Abundance of Katherines. Each time, I was disappointed. They were good books. They just weren’t An Abundance of Katherines.
Looking For Alaska has a TV show. Paper Towns has a movie. Everyone loves A Fault in Our Stars. It was a very popular movie. I’m still waiting for the love for Abundance. Where’s my TV show or movie?
I will keep reading whenever Green writes a new book. I just wish I could recapture the magic I found in An Abundance of Katherines.
And now I hope to spend the rest of the day taking Emily Richard’s advice below and refrain from working too hard today.
