In light of the Taliban’s ban on female NGO workers and last month’s suspension of university education for all female students in Afghanistan, the economy has fallen on hard times because most international funding has stopped, as the world has condemned their choices. The signing of an oil extraction deal has not come soon enough, as it will invest 150 million dollars annually into the Afghan economy, then increase to $540 million in three years.
Afghanistan is wealthy in natural resources, but only if they can have significant financial gain from these raw materials will the country dig out of being impoverished and financially isolated, especially in the northernmost part of the Amu Darya Basin. All eyes will stay on Afghanistan and China and the effect of the oil deal on the nation’s economy.
