America’s Response to Violent “domestic terrorism”

In recent years, there has been a terrifying upsurge in domestic terrorism that can no longer be ignored. With alarming frequency, any given headline will bring the next unimaginable tragedy to light: a murderous rampage at a movie theater, a mass shooting at an elementary school, or simply another senseless slaughter on the street for no ostensible reason.

In response to this growing epidemic of violence and terror within its own borders, America must come together as one and make terrorist violence against civilians intolerable. The first step is education.

  • America has a responsibility to respond in a manner that is proportional to the injury of all parties involved.
  • America should only take defensive actions, and not retaliate with violence on an individual basis.
  • America can get rid of guns and use its army solely for defense purposes only (note: the second option would be an impossible task, as these days we rely on all of our citizens to contribute in some way or another).
  • America should increase governmental bureaucracy and execute a greater sense of planning and organization.

Introduction

I read My Statement on the Anniversary of the Assault on the Capitol. I discovered that I too share the view that America should work to cease all domestic terrorism and hate crimes (a hate crime is any violent crime against a person or property motivated in part by hatred for that person’s race, color, religion, etc), and in particular to treat all hate crimes as domestic terrorism. Why? Because this is what some people would call “self-defense” from “terrorist violence”.

Freedom Of Speech Is An American Value

However, there are groups or even individuals that use their freedom of speech to terrorize and cause harm to others. The ideologies they support can be traced back to the time when they were first created. There is an endless source of knowledge and information available; however, people choose not to use it. If a person commits a hate crime and claims that the crime was committed for religious reasons, then the person is using his freedom of speech as an excuse for hate crimes (religious terrorism). This is an example of one form of terrorism that is not related to any religion, but rather to those who have political views that the attacker has in common.

Many people have used their freedom of speech to encourage others to participate in terrorist acts such as;

I call upon all people who are involved in violent acts against anyone, whether motivated by hatred or not, to immediately stop their actions and seek help. Also, I call upon America and its people to acknowledge that there is a problem with domestic terrorism. America and its people should work together to find the most effective solution to this problem.

My Statement On The Anniversary Of The Assault on the Capitol

By J.D Rehbein-Wrightstein

The present political climate is unhealthy, and free speech is under attack on a daily basis. Though the First Amendment to the Constitution states that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of people peaceably to assemble,” it is still not enough to stop some people from trying to restrict our freedoms. The government and its representatives do not like when we exercise our right to freedom of speech and political expression in any way that they see as threatening. No one in this country has the right to be a terrorist, let alone perpetrate terrorist acts against others through their freedom of speech.

During that time and ever since political parties have developed as well as groups of people who feel strongly about their views on what America’s policies should be.

To be clear, my statement is not about hate crimes, which do not fit the definition of terrorism. Rather, it is about hate crimes that are allegedly committed as a result of religious or political views. This can be difficult to prosecute because it requires proving that the act was motivated by these views and not something else entirely.
