“Beating a dead horse”

Why is this even a thing? Why would anyone even enter a dead horse in a race? Even if Willie Shoemaker isn’t the jockey on another living horse, a dead horse has zero chance of winning.

You’d have to take him in to the starting gate in a truck, get five or six of those short guys to prop him up in the gate.

And when the gates open. . . he’s not going anywhere!

“Put your money where your mouth is”

This sounds like a really bad idea. Ninety percent of U.S. dollar bills are tainted with coke. You want to put that on your mouth? This is why I launder all my American money.

“Can’t see the forest for the trees.”

That’s what a forest is. Trees.
