America, in the final stretch, is failing
America, in the final stretch, is failing. It is failing the way the Ottoman and Roman Empires failed. Families fractured.
History has shown that most empires collapsed long before 500 years had elapsed. It begins earlier, when society begins to fail, democracy comes under threat when government and political becomes divisive, ensuring the rule of law is abandoned, and autocrats surface to become leaders.
Americans may not consider themselves citizens of an empire, but the rest of the world certainly sees it that way.
After close to 300 years, America, can no longer fall back on adolescent behavior. The childish, ridiculous, and nauseating behavior, of a powerful but young nation, was one viewed with suspicion for having dubious ambitions.
It has proved in the last two hundred years, that it can be a traitorous nation, abandoning, condescending, lacking wisdom, racially, and politically naive.
Can there be a way forward?
If there is, it’s starts with you and me, and our vote. We must find a way to determine what truth is, and vote for it.
It means not everything our parents believed was then the truth. Why they believed is another whole matter, but as we grow it is not enough to believe everything our parents/family believed. The world changes. What is important to us (climate change for example) was not important to them, and still isn’t to a large degree.
The coming generations have a moral duty to seek the truth, prepared and ready to combat the manipulation of social misinformation because that source is not going away anytime soon.
What we see, hear, or told, might be different from the factual reality, and as a nation we are wandering off track, politically, morally, and financially.
But don’t take my word, my word is nothing! Research, make it your business to want to know the truth.
Example of the path we are on: take a look at the personal and moral quality of judges being selected throughout the states. Can you honestly say you believe these judicial nominations have the necessary experience, wherewithal to make reliable, fair minded judges, adhering to the laws and the constitution?
America is lacking in common sense. We have prejudice, yes, we own it, but not all prejudice is bad. Think about it.
On the issue of race, are we really so dumb as to imagine that white is superior to black? Have we really made no progress? Blacks are superior to Jews, Christians superior to Islam? Really? On what grounds? Where is your head?
Has the black American been given fair and equal opportunity in anything?
It occurs to me that in all areas of sporting contests, black holds its own. Does the white man find this concerning? Why?
How can we conquer our own fears? Why must we, speaking as a white man? Because not too far away white will become the minority in America. Is this the fear? Or is the fear blacks might dish out the same treatment to minorities that white was comfortable with in its past.
If we as a nation cannot come to our unified senses about what democracy is, and isn’t, we will go the same way as the Roman Empire.
There will be civil war in this country if the next president is anything like Trump, or Trump himself. The country will break apart, and autocrats and oligarchs will be the power behind the demise of the most powerful democratic nation known to man.
History repeats itself. You don’t have to look back to centuries past. Pol Pot, Stalin, Mussolini, Hitler, coming forward to Putin, and finally our own glutinous, uneducated, racist, fraudster, Donald Trump. There’s a common thread between them, a lack of decency and morality. In that department they were and are all emotionally bankrupt.
Their vision of the world is one they control.
We don’t have to do accept this. We don’t have to be led by morally bankrupt politicians, corporate greed, dubious lobbyists.
Aren’t we the experiment for democracy?
One nation, America, to be the example for the rest of the world? Isn’t what makes us capable, moral, lawful, the single desire to be the best behaved nation on earth?
Just take a look at education spending, and compare it with military spending. Doesn’t this kind of spending make America sound like the most aggressive nation on earth, and a long way from the smartest?
Bullies come in all shapes and sizes, every color, including orange. I could argue that Trump was what America needed to wake us all up? Give him another chance and follow him into the end of a democratic America as we know it.
When crisis has hit this country, such as Pearl Harbor, 9/11, Covid, these happenings can be the dream of the seedling autocrat. Trump was quite unable to respond as an experienced, mature adult, and the country itself began to collapse.
People have different ideas on what a democratic nation should look like: will it look steady with Trump at the helm.
I’ll leave that to others to answer.
