Amazon Rainforest: Journey to the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve

The trees were teeming with life-force. In the distance high atop the trees, a group of sloths could be seen enjoying a hearty snack. The rains, ahhh … the rains were alive, cleansing, present, each droplet of water ever so faithfully reflecting the innermost joys of being as it delicately touched my face.

Hidden amongst the foliage, clad in a single-pointed focus, Egret went about her day. Her subtle beauty had nearly escaped my eyes as our boat made its way past her. At one point a pod of dolphins dropped in to say hello to us, each one leaping in and out of the water with a curious glee and glow. My heart, at once ignited by their presence, was filled with a joy much akin to the feeling you get when you are holding a smiling baby in your arms.
Once we stepped off the boat and got all settled in our hut, I decided to explore a bit!

A bullet ant made its way in front of me, carrying with it a small bit of debris. I followed him around for a time observing as he went about his business. He led me to a large moth that was resting upon the lodge’s main hut. I was intrigued. I sat with this creature admiring all of the symbols that were laden in its story-full wings. Ahhh the stories of time.
On the way back to the hut an old tree-stump caught my eye. I jumped up on it and stood there for a time, chanting, meditating, feeling, grounding my root chakra in attunement with the vast network of roots that lay hidden beneath my feet. I opened my eyes to the magic of a blue morpho butterfly, its iridescent blue wings gleaming under the forests canopy as it made its way through the scene. WOW. What an ethereal beauty these creatures have. Didn’t get a snap of the butterfly, was meditating so didn’t have my camera, but here is a frog ;)!

I immersed in those moments with the rainforest by greeting them in my heart, thanking them for be-ing, and for sharing their life and presence with me, with us. I asked, ‘Please, gently share anything that you have to share with me on this journey.’ I was open to receive and the rainforest imbued my Soul with its wisdom along the way.

That night, the ‘Robin Williams’ of birds decided he was going to make his presence known, cawing and chattering as he did, his voice bellowed through the rainforest like an echo on the Grand Canyon’s floor. The sounds — oh the sounds on that first day and night! It was a symphony. The waters of the river sang out in harmonious and sometimes discordant melody; the insects hummed in a most playful banter, sometimes rowdy and flippant, other times sweet, still and silent; the calls and songs of the birds wafted through the air as they made their way to us; the matriarch of the tribe greeted us in her native tongue upon arrival. Through her heart the love of God reached out to us, one by one. She had ever so graciously welcomed us to her home, as if welcoming back her eldest child from a long journey away. Her sun-drenched skin, laden in wrinkles of the most beautiful sort, silently spoke of the many experiences of her life. Eyes full of pure, happy tears, I got up and gave her a hug. She received me with open arms and a warm and true heart.
There were so many beautiful teachings, gifts and insights that were gleaned from this amazing journey. This was just a little part of day one!
Have a beautiful day!
I will focus on my ‘Mimosa Pudica’ experience next. Will be heading out to nature soon!
