Shopping Will Never Be the Same

Dash cart revolutionizes the way we shop.

Recently, Amazon unveiled its latest intelligent and unconventional technology product in the market that will automate the shopping experience of customers in the physical stores. With the introduction of Amazon Dash Cart, the company aims to make quick grocery shopping even quicker, easy and convenient for the customer. This smart cart will simply recognise the items that will be placed in it and then identify the charges of the products. According to Amazon, Dash cart will be first available at the Amazon grocery store in Woodland Hills (area of Los Angeles), California later this year.

This smart version of the simple grocery store cart works on a fusion of technology that involves a combination of various computer algorithms, visual recognition sensors, weight sensors, deep learning, built-in screen, a mix of cameras and built-in scale to weigh the products. With a combination of this technology, Dash Cart will be able to identify the item placed in it and calculate the total amount of the cart. Furthermore, when the customer will walk out through the store’s dash cart lane, visual recognition sensors will automatically identify the cart and your payment will be processed through your credit card available on your Amazon’s account (Amazon’s just walk out technology ). Hence, this will reduce the amount of time people spend in standing cashier’s queue and making the shopping experience fast and convenient. Unlike, Amazon’s Go Stores technology where they have wall-mounted cameras to keep the track of virtual cart, Dash cart has its visual sensors available inside the cart to identify the products.

However, Amazon made it clear that Dash Cart is specifically designed for small- to medium-sized grocery trips and fits two grocery bags and customers can shop store’s entire grocery selection using the cart. But for some people, two grocery bags would not be enough, so this means that store will also have standard grocery carts with standard checkout lanes for those who want full cart shopping or don’t want to use Dash Cart.

Using a few simple steps Amazon’s cart can be used by the users. When the cart is available:

1. Firstly user will have to sign in to the cart using their Amazon account. There will be a QR code available in Amazon mobile app which will be scanned on the screen of the cart.

2. After that, simply add your grocery bags to the cart.

3. To add the item to the cart, the bar code available on the product will be scanned (or if bar code is obstructed, vision sensors and algorithms will try to recognize the product) and wait for the beep sound. If the light turns orange, remove the item and try again.

4. Now if you don’t want to scan the bar code, Amazon has provided an alternative for this- tap “Add PLU item” on a digital screen, then type in the PLU number, add the product to bag and confirm the weight.

5. The last step is payment. While using Dash Cart you can simply skip the checkout line, you will have to go through the Dash Cart lane, return cart and go! Payment will be done through your credit card saved on your Amazon account and receipt will be available via email.

With these five easy steps, you can start shopping with Amazon Dash Cart.

Features of Dash Cart:

One of the most essential features of this smart grocery cart is that it just not only identifies the product added to the cart, but it also recognises the quantity of that particular item added. Another feature includes a screen at the top where you can access your Alexa Shopping List to check items off and view your subtotal. Moreover, another awesome feature of this cart is that it is every cart is equipped with a coupon scanner where you can quickly apply store coupons as you shop. These features and futuristic technology by Amazon is going to save a lot of time and efforts of users as compared to the traditional way of grocery shopping.

Downsides of Dash Cart:

Firstly, Dash Cart can only be used for small or medium-sized grocery trips, for full cart shopping customers will still have to rely on the standard carts. Another major drawback of this cart is the privacy issue of the data of users collected because of all the tracking and surveillance of products. So, these are the possible flaws of Amazon Dash Cart that company still may have to overcome.

With this upgrade to traditional carts, Amazon is trying to bridge the gap between online and physical world shopping by making the offline shopping quick and more convenient. With all this advance technology there is a good chance that this cart might work well with the customers!
