NOMINATING EXCELLENT MEMOIRS AND PERSONAL ESSAYS

I’m Eager To Nominate Your Finest Writing for a Boost

As of June 1, 2023 I am officially your Narrative Arc Nominator with the Boost Nomination Pilot

canvapro.com dgh

At the Narrative Arc, we’re glad to have been invited to the Boost Nomination Pilot Program. It was such a compliment to hear that our pub’s appearance and essays make us a great fit. The editors that I recruited to join me are writers I have admired. They’ve all helped recruit talent from across the platform. Now, it’s our turn to nominate essays, so the Medium curators can boost them.

Note — we are tasked with choosing pieces that fit fairly specific criteria and we occasionally nominate pieces for the Boost that the curators don’t choose. In other words, we do our best to choose pieces that stand out in specific ways, but then the curators ultimately choose. Striking stories and memoirs that are unique and memorable do well.

Please know that it’s not a comment on a lack of quality if you aren’t chosen. We want you to tell your stories, in your voice. Take a look at the Quality Standards below and you’ll have an idea of the types of stories we’re looking for.

I will be your nominator, which I’m so excited to do.

And a great piece of news! Christine Schoenwald is now also a Boost Nominator! She will be working at boosting essays from our pub The Wind Phone. We’re delighted to give your amazing and heartfelt essays of loss attention.

Christine and I work closely together to highlight the finest essays. The editorial team helps us by drawing our attention to essays too.

We have no lack of strong writers and essays

I predict our excellent writers are going to improve even more. How can you write your best work while also following guidelines? Read the link at the bottom closely. That’s my rubric, essentially.

Many of our writers at The Narrative Arc have been boosted

We also have stories boosted from our other pubs, such as The Wind Phone and In For a Penny. If you visit those publications, you’ll see our ‘Boost Galleries’ at the top of the pages.

I’ve been studying and preparing with the crew, so in the meanwhile — write your excellent essays and memoirs. Your work, in order to be put forward for the boost must be excellent, heartfelt, without error, and strong. Editors will, as always, work hard to help you with your words and formatting.

Move us with your words! Personal essays and memoirs I nominate must be outstanding — with power, strength, nuance, and imagery. Again, see the link below.

A word to the wise — hook your readers fast.

As the publisher with our team, here are guidelines for our pubs, and my preferences

  • Author’s name is authentic, or at least a believable pseudonym. Author’s photo can be a bit artistic, but again, preference is for realistic names and faces. These preferences are for essays we wish to promote to a wider audience.
  • Story is crafted beautifully, as mentioned above, and submitted without errors.
  • Photo or image with story is attractive and in horizontal format rather than vertical. URL is compressed.
  • No big blocks of tags, no obscure kickers referencing writing challenges, no mention of writing challenges. I don’t mind ‘language’ if it is not overused. No religious, political, or rants, please. Personal, heartfelt, based on authors’ experiences.

Thanks to our strong team of editors, who help you shine your essays

Darren Weir, Christine Schoenwald, Kit Desjacques, Conni Walkup Hull, Mike Butler. Ellen Eastwood, and Vidya Sury, Collecting Smiles
