Summary

Destiny Harris advocates for responding with kindness and patience rather than negativity when faced with unexpected rudeness or difficulties in relationships, as demonstrated by her decision to not retaliate after being denied access to a shared account that was in her name.

Abstract

In a personal anecdote, Destiny Harris discusses the importance of taking the high road in relationships. When faced with a situation where a friend denied her access to a shared account that was actually in her name, Harris contemplated two possible reactions: to act spitefully or to do nothing. Choosing the latter, she reflects on how she wants to remember her actions in such situations. Harris emphasizes that kindness and patience, even in the face of negativity, are more beneficial in the long run. She encourages readers to adopt a similar approach in their relationships, suggesting that how one responds to adversity is a testament to their character.

Opinions

  • Acting with kindness is more effective than responding with negativity in relationships.
  • One should consider how they will look back on their actions in a difficult situation.
  • Responding with patience when faced with rudeness is a reflection of one's character.
  • It is better to take no action than to act out of immediate frustration in a conflict.
  • Harris's personal motto seems to be that kindness and understanding should guide one's interactions, even when provoked.

Always Take The High Road In Relationships

Kindness always takes you further

A dear friend and I were sharing several accounts. Some of them were paid by myself, others were paid by them.

When I asked for the password to one of the accounts, they abruptly changed the script and told me to get my own account for no apparent reason.

A week later, I realized the account I asked about was in my name; yet they still had access to it.

I could have taken two routes:

  1. Be snide, tell them they don’t even pay for the account and delete their access.
  2. Do nothing.

I decided to go with the second option. I asked myself, “If I ever look back on this situation, how do I want to remember how I handled it?”

I’m starting to think of this question often in regards to how I conduct my relationships. I want to try to respond in kindness when I’m shocked by rudeness, shortness, or negativity.
