Top reasons why you may want to write for Vocal Media

It pays to be persistent. For almost 2 years, I wrote story after story on a semi-regular basis with Medium’s alterative: Vocal Media.

Vocal Media has tons of writers, and with all that competition, I thought it would be difficult to come out unique. But the key tip I have for you is to embrace change and be unafraid. Be yourself.

But today, I got the news that my story about my childhood years growing up with my commanding, and creative dad who owned a grocer, won Top Story. This means more eyes on my story and a few extra bucks in my pocket. Top Story is a category that allows writers to have their article get front page coverage, which hopefully will lead to more subscribers and views. My story covered my early life when my grocery store family and I navigated challenges such as racism and the looming threat of 24 hour convenience stores, threatening the livelihood of mom and pop stores.

What’s unique about Vocal Media is that writers have a chance to get big bucks and win regular contest prizes. I also love their writing prompts which helps writers explore different subject and themes.

Vocal Media also offers regular bonus for more stories written.

Since I joined, I earned a welcome bonus, as well as other perks, such as financial bonuses for liking other creators.

You’ve published your 10th story on Vocal!-

$10.00

I also got a $10 welcome bonus, which paid for my first month on this cool site. You also get a chance to earn for reads, too, which is similar to Medium.

You can also send your Medium stories to Vocal Media and vice versa. To do this, rewrite your Medium story a bit and say the original was published on Medium and add the link.

What I like about Vocal Media is that it allows your writing to get better. I was forced to write, rewrite it until the words sounded right. As a beginner, I often published my first draft and left it. Not cool. Consider your first draft, just that. Not good enough to be published. Keep fine-tuning by walking away from it and looking at it again. Another tip is not to use commonly used words or phrases, such as “Back to the drawing board, or that’s how the ball dropped,” etc. That’s lazy writing. Reach into your creative voice and write out unique phrases not spat out by Chat GPT.

It’s not just for fiction writers. The story I wrote was definitely confessional and nonfiction. Lots of writers like to write nonfiction essays and articles, so you can carry on with your similar format and aim to get a new audience.

I appreciate if you would check out my Top Story and get an inkling of how this site operates.
