Allow Yourself to Dream and See What Happens

How chasing your dreams will change your life.

When I started dreaming again, I began to experience hope, joy, and happiness.

A few years ago, my wife and I were living in a rental owned by her parents. We were paying full rent and had a newborn and 2-year-old. I was working a corporate job which was sucking the life out of me. And I felt miserable.

I thought getting a promotion was going to make things better. The money was good which eased our financial situation. It felt like coming up for air after being underwater for too long.

But things only got worse.

Work became more stressful and hopeless. It began to drain the life out of me even more. My hunger for comfort and security in striving for said promotion had led me to feel dead inside.

It was about this time I had my first panic attack. It happened in my cubicle. I pulled it together enough to escape to my car in the parking lot. After about half an hour I was able to get control and went back to work.

The panic attack shocked me into reality.

The Conversation that Made Me Dream

“What are your dreams?”

A friend asked me this a few days later after I shared about my panic attack and struggle with work and life. I remember sitting there at the coffee shop table and considering this for a while.

I wasn’t sure. And he knew it.

“You need to dream, otherwise you will die inside and never recover.”

During the days and weeks that followed, something in me began to change. I felt like I was coming back to life as I began to dream again. Work still sucked, but it wasn’t killing me anymore. I began to see a change in my family too.

The more I began to dream, the more I began to find hope in every situation. This new found hope led me to see dreams coming true and even bigger dreams emerge.

Through this, I realized my dreams unlocked the door to hope which helped me find joy and happiness in my life again.

Dreams Create Hope Which Leads to Joy and Happiness

The hope I began to experience began to grow because I had something to hope for, my dreams.

As hope continued to grow and I began to see dreams come true, I started to feel a deep sense of joy and happiness in my life. This became infectious to the people around me too.

I learned that joy and happiness in life come from hope. And hope comes most easily when there is a dream to chase.

Today, I want to leave you with this one question. That's it. I want to ask you:

What are your dreams?
