All Your Burning Malignant Narcissist Questions, Answered
How Malignant Narcissists Behave

Malignant narcissists are those narcissistic individuals who are vicious, cold, intellectual, and entitled. They also have high-achiever characteristics. This is why they perform very well in any authoritative and leadership type of role. This type of individual has a motto like “the means justify the ends, no matter who gets hurt in the process”. As this type of individual only cares about their end goals, thus, they don’t care much about other people.
Clinical psychologist and Harvard lecturer Craig Malkin, Ph.D., says, “Malignant narcissism is a combination of narcissism and psychopathy.” It’s also combined with Machiavellianism, which he describes as a “cold, chess-playing approach to life and love.”
Some definite signs:
These are some obvious signs you might have to watch out for in a malignant narcissist:
- Incapable of handling any disapproval and criticisms from others.
- They always have some sort of fascination with being attractive and successful.
- If anyone betrays them, they usually have the desire to strike out or do something to get even with that person.
- To achieve the end goals they don’t think twice before taking advantage of anyone around them
- Because of their entitlement, they always want others to show them special treatment
- They are very preoccupied and sometimes even obsessed with their physical appearance.
- They usually don’t show any compassion towards others
- They get their sadistic pleasure by domineering and oppressing others
- They target individuals with high insecurity. They usually like to oppress and torture insecure people.
- They enjoy bullying other people and will say anything to make the other person feel insecure.
How can you deal with them?
- As they are purposefully hurting you by exploiting your weakest points, thus, giving them no reaction and not engaging with them will give them no power over you.
- Don’t engage with them in any sort of argument or debate. As these narcissists will not participate in any healthy discussion. They will most likely say anything to win the debate with you. Therefore, an effective approach would be not to engage with them.
- If you are someone who likes to fix things or issues of other people, in that case, don’t try to stay with the malignant narcissist to fix their personality disorder issues.
According to Elizabeth Scott, MS in Very Well Mind: “Do not try to change them and don’t expect them to change or you will be disappointed.”
- As malignant narcissists are a bit dangerous in comparison with other types of narcissists, it is better to avoid them.
Bottom Line:
Malignant narcissists enjoy criticizing and belittling other people by exploiting their insecurities and shortcomings. They usually aim to damage the self-esteem of others so that they can have control over them. This is why their most preferred victims are the insecure ones. If you ever deal with a malignant narcissist you have to remember that the reasons behind their behavior toward you are because of their severe personality disorder issues. It has nothing to do with you or your insecurities in any way.
