All Self-Improvement Is Towards One Goal — You Have to Stop if You Aren’t Achieving It
Understanding the reason for being in this space to keep being in it or quit
Why do you like self-improvement?
What’s your motive behind it, and what do you seek to achieve with it?
Is it that you want to become a better version of yourself and live life on your terms without anything influencing it?
That’s your motive for engaging in it. Right? That same mindset you have informed me to go into it, too.
My life was broken, and the only way to put it back was to commit to self-improvement.
And after committing to it, I must be honest that life hasn’t been the same. There has been significant progress mentally, emotionally, physically, and psychologically. And although I’m nowhere closer to my dreams, I am happy because, unlike yesterday when I didn’t know anything about life and didn’t have any sense of direction to take my life, now I do. Everything looks beautiful. And that’s one sign of self-improvement helping you.
So, let’s see if you’re getting results as well.
The measurement that shows that self-improvement is serving you
“We can’t become what we need to be by remaining what we are.” — Oprah Winfrey.
Where were you yesterday in your life? Can you tell how things were before you picked self-improvement and if there have been changes? Do you feel happy with yourself now? Are you optimistic about the future looking at how things are with you?
If your answers to all these questions are positive, then the idea is genuinely helping you. But, if it’s not, or you’re unsure if the practice is helping you, then something is wrong.
Because self-improvement, as we can see from the word, must help us become better. Where we were in life, and we picked it up, our lives must be excellent. So, if you aren’t benefiting and getting better, you should stop and focus your time and energy elsewhere.
I, before this day, was struggling mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually which affected my economic life. Even what to eat when the day was here was difficult. I wasn’t getting a good job like my peers.
I didn’t have respect among my family and friends. I was addicted to drugs and drinking alcohol almost every day. I was all the time depressed. There was no sense of direction in my life and no urgency to act and do something because something was at stake. I wasted my time. I only existed with no purpose and meaning to my life in simple terms.
But, the moment I found this philosophy, things changed. I started living the opposite of everything about my life.
And although I’m not entirely successful and not where I want to be in life, I’m no more where I used to be. I’m not depressed anymore like I was. I can boldly say I’m a happy person.
Because when I wake up in the morning, I know what I’m supposed to do with my life. There’s a direction for my life, and as to whether I’m becoming what I said I want to become, I can tell due to my actions. I’m no longer a zombie, following people and situations. I say no a lot to things and people. My life is programmed, and I go by that program every day.
How about you? Can you say the same? Because those are the things, self-improvement does to one’s life. Do you have your life the same as I?
The reason for self-improvement in our lives
“There’s only one success… to be able to spend life in your own way — Christopher Morley”
There are two kinds of people in the world. Those struggling and those living happily. Which one of them do you think picks up self-improvement among these two groups? The ones struggling or the happy ones?
It’s the ones struggling. The reason? If you’re good in life and doing well, living life on your terms without anything influencing it, what will you do with self-improvement? You won’t do anything with it because you’re already good, living the reason we pick the practice, and there’ll be no essence.
It’s those of us, who are struggling, searching for answers, that pick the idea and engage in it with the sole purpose of ending our struggles.
Whenever someone is into self-improvement, the single and only ultimate reason is to make their lives better. And talking about making our lives better, the idea is to have time, money, relationship freedom, and freedom over everything that concerns our lives. It’s to have total power over ourselves. And that’s what self-improvement gives us.
So, if you aren’t achieving all those in all of your practice, what do you think is happening? It means you’re failing, and there’s no need to waste your time and energy on it.
I wouldn’t continue to be in this space if my life hadn’t changed from when I started. After all, why do we do the things we do with our lives? They’re for a reason. It’s to achieve an intended result, and if that result isn’t manifesting, why continue with it? It will be better you go with the flow of the world.
Another thing to bear in mind in this space
All of life is a result. Who we are today and who we will be tomorrow is and will be by the consequences of our everyday actions.
This idea, therefore, makes us understand something. That success and failure in life are predictable.
Based on what you spend your life doing whenever the day is here, you can tell if you’ll become successful or not.
If every day when you wake up, you do those things you believe will make you successful and you don’t procrastinate, what do you think is happening? Likewise, if you don’t do anything but waste your time on things that can’t help you become something.
It means to succeed in life or fail; you don’t need rocket science to explain it. You can tell by what you spend your life doing, and if you aren’t engaging in those habits that guarantee success, you are a failure automatically even before the future arrives. So it’s no wonder they say if you want to see what your future looks like, look at your present. And that’s a fact. Who you are today determines who you’ll be tomorrow.
As I’ve said, self-improvement is a tool to greatness, and if you’re engaging in it, your life has to improve. So, if you don’t see any of the things explained, why should you continue?
That will be insanity, and I don’t think you should do it. The habit should help you become something, not the other way round.
