All in Due Time
A Poem
It’s what you told me when we first met All in due time My mantra to forecast our future love
Every time you left I muttered it again under my breath as you walked away from my life All in due time
As soon as you were gone You were back again with more breadcrumbs for me to follow to your heart All in due time
But then you dissolved into particles of love lost And my watch stopped working all in due time
I no longer understood time This construct created by those who were waiting for something and had nowhere to be and that wasn’t me Because I heard you the first time you told me All in due time
But time was a wildebeest thrashing me to and fro and leaving my hopes in tatters on the hay But those words played in my head All in due time
Surely you’d do as you once said and return to what could be between us Two errant souls diverged on the path of time
But you never did and I waited so long A beard of a thousand years grew in place of time and the only thing I waited for was death All in due time
