All I Wish

Photo by Priscilla Du Preez on Unsplash

Slow starvation My salvation I couldn’t stop myself.

I kept on eating Self defeating Somewhere on the shelf.

I keep a list Of targets missed And all my reasons why.

I take a pen Now and then When I decide to try.

And add to it New things , new me New reasons to pursue.

Some of the things I think might bring A semblance of you.

A reason too And things to do To be a better me.

A person who Resembles you If you were here to see.

And hear somebody We both know Talk fondly of me.

I know him well You used to spell His initials in the sand.

We’d fling our sticks Into the tide And you would take his hand.

The strangulation Isolation Oceans still my breath.

Like flotsam On the restless sea I am now bereft.

I am adrift And all I wish Is that you’d never left.
