Aligning with The Future of Content Creation

Web 3.0 and community is the only way up

2021 has been an important year for my personal and professional life.

I found out about my anxiety and worked my way through it. I was also lucky professionally and found my muse as a writer utilizing a mixture of all my interests.

I made plenty of mistakes and learned powerful lessons along the way. My biggest misstep was tipping my toes on multiple different things and trying hard to do to be in an over-saturated and outdated industry.

Working in a tech company showed me a glimpse of the future; ever since then, I have been caught up in what’s coming. Understanding Web 3 made me delete my four-year-old YouTube channel and my podcast.

But, it was needed for the new changes I will take to keep myself aligned with the future of content creation.

And this is how I’m planning to go all into the semantic web or Web 3.

Transitioning into Web 3.0

As an artist with creativity as my core value, I have explored multiple ways to find my voice. But, while I tried making videos, recording podcasts, and writing on LinkedIn — I felt hollow. I could see my work losing the algorithm game.

I could see my work losing the algorithm game.

Why was it happening, you’d ask. When all the tech giants try hard to make billions off your content, they don’t care about the quality, only about what sells. So the more entertaining the content, the more ads they can run.

This may not hold for all the platforms, but this is how the mainstream social media platforms work in Web 2. When the tech giants make billions on your content, their business model only works when you hustle.

The endless content creation and the urge to entice the Algorithm Gods take away the soul of a creator — it’s never-ending.

“Web 3.0 will engender a new global digital economy, creating new business models and markets to go with them, busting platform monopolies like Google and Facebook, and giving rise to vast levels of bottom-up innovation.” — Gavin Wood

Once you understand that, you’ll realize you’re not benefiting from them. It’s the opposite. With blockchain technology finding more use cases for a broader range of people, tons of opportunities are waiting to be explored.

The Currency of Ownership Economy

When you combine tech and art, you get NFTs. When you combine finance and blockchain, you get DeFi. When you mix your imagination with internet tech, you step into the metaverse.

One thing that keeps all of them together is the community. When there are no controllers or leaders — the community act as DAOs, and this infrastructure of distributed ledger technology leaves a slim chance for monopoly or dominance.

When the whims of the giants do not bind the content, it is allocated among people, giving rise to the Ownership Economy. Every token holder becomes a stakeholder, and the community becomes the currency.

When a third person is involved in a relationship, it becomes taxing and hard to sustain. That’s what I felt while posting video after video on my YouTube channel; most of the time, my videos weren’t even shown to my entire community.

Moving to Web 3 will allow me to be more community-driven, and it will be about each of us. The tech also allows me to share my success with my audience and readers.

“The ownership economy is the idea that in the future, all platforms will be built, operated, and owned by their users.” — Li Jin

Sharing and Not Selling

“Buy my course.” or “Buy my e-book.”

I am sure you have heard tons of your favorite creators creating digital products to increase their revenue sources. Some lucky ones, like Ashley Massengill, made millions in 40 minutes selling her course, but not all creators are that lucky.

Selling a product may help them make ends meet, but it’s not a sustainable revenue model for small creators. However, when creators, instead of selling assets, decide to share them with their community by creating a tokenized infrastructure.

This will enable them to create a gated community of all their digital assets available for ownership to everyone in their community. The more people own the asset, the more value it will generate—similar to NFTs.

Collecting assets, just like NFT collectors collect the art they believe in and invest in upcoming artists like a VC. You can either hold the assets and wait for them to increase or flip them when you’ve gained the desired return.

This ownership will make you a VC in creators you believe in. And allow the creators to focus on wealth sharing and not selling.

If you are kind and provide value, your community will collect your genesis collection and help you spread the word with their network, and you’ll witness the power of the Network Effect.

Conclusion

There are more opportunities in Web 3 that are getting uncovered every day. Social tokens, metaverse, and NFTs will be the pillar of content creation when people understand the freedom ownership economy brings to artists and creators like us.

I am excited to see what the future brings for all of us, but I am also fascinated by how it will enable me to explore my creativity and hone my skills to adapt to new technologies.

And now, instead of creating videos and podcasts for the algorithm, I want to do it for people who are genuinely interested in them and enjoy my ideas. This will make me worry less about the numbers and more about serving my community where we share ideas and build our wealth together — it’s about mutual growth in Web 3.

Web 3 allows communities to create their own consensus. When communities create their consensus and governance, there’s no place for an intermediary.
