Examples

There are many telltale signs that a story has AI or that AI was used. Some of you have the experience to know. Help us. Write about this, please. Give us some examples.

Personal

Many of us have committed to not using AI in our articles, stories, or posts here on Medium. This is the first and best way to eliminate AI here on Medium. Also, if you find a story that you feel is AI. DO NOT READ IT. Move on.

Publicity

Is it possible to think we can influence a larger group of people than just those who write and read here on Medium?

I believe we can. But we’ll need more help. Perhaps you could help? Here’s what we need.

1 — If you know of publications that will not accept AI submissions, please let us know. Use my email address, or please put their name and or URL it in the comments.

2 — If you know how to write a press release and are willing to write and submit it to various publications, please comment or email me.

Notable Comments

Recently, I have had a couple of comments from a teacher battling with the use of AI in the classroom. Emily Gibson writes:

“As a teacher, this topic is looming large. I had a 7th-grade student submit an essay written by ChatGPT as his own, saying, “I used my resources.” After 32 years in education, I think AI vs. HI may be the one [topic] that finally sends me to early retirement! Thanks for compiling the resources to read.”

In another reply, she said:

“I have another tidbit from another teacher whose school is using ChatGPT to try to level the playing field for students with low vocabulary. They can write a cover letter and then have ChatGPT make it sound better. The idea is that they can land an interview, where they then have to show they have the skills, etc. I’ve read a ton of sci-fi. This AI thing NEVER works out in every story I’ve read. Yet here we are….”

Topics You Might Want To Write About

R C Hammond adds:

1. Should AI writing be allowed on this platform?

2) How proactive should Medium be to control it?

3) Should it be compared to HI writing?

4) Should compensation be given to AI writers?

5) Will Medium cease to be if AI is allowed to become the dominant “voice” here?

Maryan Pelland OnText.com suggest these as a prompt:

• Compensation for material scraped to train AI platforms.
• Laws and regulations.
• Ethical concerns.
• Ways to get involved.
• Copyright registration rules.
• News items

Leonard Tillerman suggests that we also start collecting keywords and phrases that might tip off a reader that AI may have been involved. If you have some of those from your experience, please share them in the comments.
