Summary

The web content discusses the imposition of AI technology in Jamaica, highlighting the negative impact on freedom of choice, the economy, and social interactions, while advocating for a more human-centric approach to technological advancement.

Abstract

The article titled "AI vs HI —Is AI Denying Us Of Our Rights To Freedom Of Choice" from the DEP Book Project presents a critical perspective on the forced adoption of AI in Jamaica. It argues that AI is being implemented without adequate consideration for the population's understanding, consent, or economic capability, leading to a loss of agency and potential harm. The author, Annelise Lords, emphasizes that AI is not just a tool but a significant disruptor that affects mental health, social dynamics, and the basic human need for personal interaction. The piece underscores the importance of human intuition and emotional intelligence in communication and relationship building, which are at risk due to the rapid and unchecked introduction of AI. The author calls for a more thoughtful integration of AI, suggesting that without proper knowledge and understanding, AI could be misused and become a threat rather than an aid. The article also touches on the economic challenges faced by Jamaicans, with many unable to afford internet services or computers, and questions whether AI

To the Editors of DEP — AI affects different countries and their people in different ways. This is how it affects mine. This is my letter of intent.

AI vs. HI book project letter of intent.

AI is forced upon us because some poor countries are playing follow the leader with their people’s lives, mental health, sanity, living, survival, existence, and hope for a positive future, without thought, regard, care, or feeling.

AI isn’t introduced to us. It’s rammed down our throats without water, warning, enough knowledge, or understanding. It’s used as a weapon of intimidation by banks forcing us to get bank cards and online banking, using machines most don’t understand, thus robbing us of our rights to freedom of choice.

Many homes have no internet services or cannot afford a computer.

How it’s introduced to Jamaicans a fight to stop its progress is growing across Jamaica. Distrust is at the top and center because of scamming and the authorities are unable to solve any issues arising from the damage scammers are doing to us. Also, the bank’s inability to take responsibility for our information when it’s compromised in their ABM and inside their financial institutions. They can’t afford, or refuse, to spend the millions needed to protect our personal information.

Jamaicans can’t afford the cost of AI. The banks here are losing millions of dollars because of scammers, some are within their organization. They can’t release this information to the public.

We are being warned to keep track of our money in the banks.

Distrust is growing here thanks to AI.

Jamaicans love drama. They love to touch each other while communicating, arguing, or discussing politics, the latest world crisis, or events. Or anything worth their while. World crises and events are discussed and argued about on every street corner, in the markets, around a game of dominoes, in the kitchen while cooking, around the dinner or breakfast table, or everywhere and anywhere that a group of people is gathered.

We are poor and life is hard. Communication and socialization are the pills we take when mental health issues arise.

Poverty can be a savior. It forces personal communication and contact.

HI communication builds friendships, while strengthening relationships and heals mental health issues. We are social people who were born with certain gifts. One of them is our ability to read emotions. Through personal communication, family or friends can sense or pick up that snow is falling in hell. Then an attempt to save you began.

Most Jamaicans can read emotions. By the look on your face, how you are dressed, the change of routine, and what wasn’t said or done, from a place of love, knowledge, and understanding, we can sense that something is off. Then something is done to help you.

You must adapt and keep up with the changes in our world. You must keep up with the times. The first world countries are doing it. We are behind time, you have to keep up. There are many reasons why AI must become a part of our lives.

Most Jamaicans don’t mind change, but many want it on their own terms. Others are willing to accept and accommodate change, it’s how it’s presented that is creating the problems.

Shouldn’t we have a choice where we want AI to enter?

Shouldn’t we be given a choice of how we want AI to help or hinder us?

Most Jamaicans are poor and cannot afford the cost of Internet Service. US$1 to Jamaican, according to Google is $155.14, which goes up every day. The minimum wage here is less than US$100 per week. Most homes don’t have a computer. Internet service isn’t available everywhere, and most can’t afford it either. Many schools are not sufficiently funded so Computer classes aren’t introduced to most children until high school.

Not all high schools have enough computers, teachers, or resources to teach all their students. Poverty is preventing most Jamaicans from meeting and learning how to use AI.

But ready, prepared or not, it’s thrown into your face and life, at a cost to you.

I understand the message and value of AI. But without proper knowledge and understanding, it will become a weapon instead of a tool. It will be feared instead of friended.

AI is feared in Jamaica. My world isn’t ready, nor is it equipped to fully welcome or accept AI. HI, we know and can handle it.

Maybe if it was introduced to us from birth, then we would grow with its advantages and disadvantages, thus giving ourselves a choice.

AI is a helpful and useful tool for humanity. It should not be used as a weapon. It’s being used as a weapon and has threatened the existence of its creators.

Is anyone aware that humans are still creating their destruction? Your destruction. My destruction. The destruction of humanity.

Every tool that was created to help us, ways to use it as a weapon to harm us is added. — Annelise Lords

Jamaicans don’t want to talk to a machine. They want to see a human being. And so do you!
