AI Image How-To — #24

How to make glowing trails of light — secrets revealed!

Car leaving trails of light — AI image using Midjourney

These images were created in Midjourney using V4 and Upscaled.

I originally tried creating the prompt with a cloverleaf interchange. (You know, those crazy city highways with all of the on-off ramps.) AI created the cloverleaf interchange but absolutely refused to create the streams of light.

I’ve discovered while generating these images that Midjourney will generate different color variations with enough patience.

Each of these images took several attempts as I wanted the light to appear as if it was a trail, or an exhaust trail, left by the object.

Many images had white, yellow, or a yellowish-green tint to the light.

With patience and continued image generating, you can be rewarded with a colorful trail and have the trail emanating from the object in your prompt.

For the image above, I specified the car and that I wanted it to be at night. I was not only rewarded with a stunning night image but the galaxy in the shot! (Insert aww — I love the night sky!)

So what’s the key words to achieve this based on the prompt below?

Light trails. All other words in that portion of text (before the comma) are add-ons.

The car is to leave the light trails. When? At night.

Prompt for image above:

Though car is in the prompt (and not the image,) I included this simply because it is stunning.

Because night is listed in the prompt, AI added a full moon and either some wispy clouds or something interesting.

For this image, I was more specific with the road. There is a glowing trail on the curving mountain road.

Snail — AI image using Midjourney

Because I’m a big kid at heart and envision things, I thought we’d have a little fun with this one!

I was choosing between multiple slow creatures and the snail won hands down for humor.

Quite a few beginning images had the shell all lit up in the distance like a ferris wheel. Several image generations later, the snail took form.

Prompt for image above:

snail leaving light trails, Wide-Angle Shot, ultra HD** - Upscaled (Beta)

Alligator — AI image using Midjourney

I thought it would be fun to do other — non-motor vehicles.

While working towards this image, most images had sporadic lights (which was typical) or the alligator was standing on top of the water — not in the water.

This could have even been written on a river bank to further isolate where the alligator would be located.

I thought the light under the gator was indicative of a sudden stop. Very cool.

Prompt for image above:

alligator leaving light trails on a river, Wide-Angle Shot, ultra HD** - Upscaled (Beta)

Bald Eagle — AI image using Midjourney

As with each of the previous images, it took a good amount of images created before the light trail followed the object listed as the prompt indicated.

I thought this image was awesome as the light has a bounce that forcefully flapping wings could produce for a bird.

Not all of the eagles created were Bald Eagles and, in my curiosity, wanted to leave the type open to see what AI would do.

Prompt for image above:

Eagle leaving light trails in the sky, Wide-Angle Shot, ultra HD** - Upscaled (Beta)

Then I wondered — would Midjourney produce colorful light trails?

This image almost belongs in the images that didn’t make the cut section below but it’s just so awesome!

I found it interesting that the majority of the objects in the images had a glow to them — with this one being the most incredible.

I did not catch that I ordered the prompt Eagle colorful then leaving light trails.

Could this be why I had a gorgeous, colorful, glowing Eagle? So I decided to reorganize my prompt and run it again.

Prompt for image above:

Eagle colorful leaving light trails in the sky, Wide-Angle Shot, ultra HD** - Upscaled (Beta)

Golden Eagle — AI image using Midjourney

Even changing where colorful falls in the prompt, I still have a colorful Eagle.

Prompt for image above:

Eagle leaving colorful light trails in the sky, Wide-Angle Shot, ultra HD** - Upscaled (Beta)

Image that didn’t make the cut:

While this image doesn’t have the intended light trail, it is really awesome with the colorful glow in the wings!
