Figures holding miniature replicas — secrets revealed!

I thought it was a cool idea to have someone holding a “mini-me,” or mini version of themselves.

The image above and below both use the same prompt.

As expected, these images took quite a bit of work to generate a good outcome. Why? Because AI still has not mastered hands. At all.

Most images, as has been true in the past, had way too many fingers. When I did have a really good image, this was the case or they were all twisted and weird.

Most images had rain falling, as indicated in the prompt with rain.

I added photorealistic for more of a photo quality image.

I thought his “mini-me” holding an umbrella was a fun touch to the image.

In some images, the man was holding a photograph. Most though, he was holding a figurine with a stunning likeness.

If it weren’t for the hand, these images would have been quick and easy. But, persistence pays off!

The image of the sous chef was more challenging. For some reason, though the prompt is very similar, the figurines were often male and, of course, looked nothing like the chef.

It’s amazing how a little rewording of a prompt can completely change the outcome.

This holds true just between different AI software. I can paste the exact same prompt into Mage.Space or NightCafe and get completely different images from what I wanted.

Using sous chef in the prompt caused Midjourney to profile the prompt and include a spotless kitchen in the background.

Of all the image prompts for this article, the lumberjack took the least amount of generated images.

The images for this article were not beta upscaled as MJ horribly distorted the faces of the figurines. Thus, the images are only upscaled.

I began this prompt by having replica with axe. In most of those images, the man held the axe and the axes looked more like something from the stone age. Once this was removed, the images generated varied from including an axe, a chainsaw, or a tree in the image.

Though the prompt says photorealistic, not all images were. AI seems to like to mix things up occasionally and give some cartoony.

Surprisingly, there were fewer finger issues as with all of the previous images (though they were still very much an issue.)

Could I have left trees out of the prompt and still received them in the images? Yes. AI will profile your images and input backgrounds. I put trees in the prompt to eliminate the majority of images that would lack a background.

Failed Prompts

I tried to create an old lady holding a replica of her younger self but Midjourney persistently gave sweet, little old ladies.

I also attempted a ballerina holding a replica with ballet slippers. In some of the images, the replica was in the slipper, in others, she only held a slipper.

Another failed attempt was for a skater to hold a replica that held a mug. Midjourney consistently gave the skater holding a mug with an image of the replica on it.

I think it’s safe to say, AI won’t take over the world today.

Humorous images that didn’t make the cut.

The above image uses the lumberjack prompt above. It was one of the most amusing images that would be in the deleted category — that I thought I’d share!
