AI doesn’t intimidate me as a writer—and it shouldn’t intimidate you either

You wanna know what will always be better than a machine that thinks for us? No matter how cool it may seem? Actual people with real brains, real ideas, and originality. These AI bots that can write entire novels and reword your essay and paragraphs are not human beings.

Why did I have to state the obvious?

Because, it seems like the obvious is not apart of our society anymore. It seems like people like to rewrite the obvious and make things more complicated. AI does not have blood running in its veins. It doesn’t feel pain. It hasn’t experienced heartache or love. It hasn’t been on the brink of death and shook back with an amazing story to tell. AI doesn’t have a redemption story. AI doesn’t know the joys of parenthood. AI doesn’t know what it’s like to see the sunrise on a cold Sunday morning.

AI is not us.

We as real writers have an advantage over AI even if it seems like we don’t.

Something that will always be in demand is originality and the human experience. People love the REAL. I know, I know. We are surrounded by a sea of people who are shallow and enjoy instant gratification and don’t want to work for anything. But, there are a plethora of people that love REAL stories and real human experiences.

When you see people out dining at mom and pop cafes and resturants instead of ordering UberEats or Starbucks on DoorDash—that should restore your faith in the love for real experiences that people long for. When you see people on the train reading physical books instead of reading from their phone—that should let you know that people do still love the feeling of a real book in their hands and the old book smell that we all love but can’t really describe.

People do still long for the real—in anything.

AI cannot replace the passion and the love and the pain that we all put into our stories. One day, being a real writer will hold more weight than ever before just because we are surrounded by machines and things that are artificial—real people with amazing writing talent and original ideas will be a breath of fresh air for the world.

The world will need us and long for us.

And we will be there. Because we are irreplaceable.

Thank you so much for reading.
