After Moving On

An abecedarian poem

Before I give myself permission to Completely put this year in the Dumpster, perhaps I’ll take a look back at the Events that have been added to our story. First, we’ve gotten settled in Canada, a change of the Greatest magnitude from the States. Next, Having grown my business, I’ve become a “professional,” whatever that really means. Just this last week, I was chatting with my Kids about how far we’ve come, and how Love of our family has spurred us to Make a fresh start — No one knows that better than me. Only when I look at the distances traveled, Perhaps there is a bit of regret about Quite how much we’ve left behind. Regrets aren’t just for birds — Sometimes they fly those long distances Through the flap of our hearts Until we realize the Very significant things we’ve accepted as lost. Whatever place we go next, for now we’ll gather around the Xmas tree and celebrate making it this far. Years will pass again, I know, and we will settle in with a Zen acceptance of who we will become tomorrow.

Abecedarian poems are a poetry format I learned about on Medium from the lovely writer Ali. My first one was here and links to Ali’s poem:

Essentially, each line has to start with the next letter in the alphabet, beginning at A and going all the way to Z (or sometimes poets do the reverse and start at Z and go back to A). It’s a fun format, but I must admit that the hardest letter is “X.”
