denying yourself will never lead to a happy life it is just another obstacle to overcome another secret to keep during family gatherings

they show him their teeth while asking about girls he’s brought home and he responds that sadly it never worked out

he licks over his lower lip so the lies will slip easier his phone keeps buzzing it’s his lover

he bites the flesh of his cheek to prevent himself from telling the truth not because he is ashamed rather than fearing that the people that brought him into this life will laugh, at first, then hit him for what he’s done loving another boy

eventually, they will understand that’s what he’s trying to convince himself of but he knows better and the texts in his trousers suddenly feel like a rock tearing down every courage he’s once had

when he does tell them, they pack up his stuff and tell him he’s gotta find his own place when he leaves with tears in his eyes he thinks of begging his mother to change her mind but he knows that it’s pointless because he’s not gonna change his’

when they depart she doesn’t look at him she turns her back at him goes back inside and closes the door

she even turns off the porch lights.
