Advice from a Wedding Coordinator (not me) that Everyone Needs to Hear
Especially in this day and age
I have a friend who coordinates weddings and she told me something that always stuck with me.
She tells every couple,
“Your wedding day is going to be one of the best days of your life, but it’s going to be a blur, so take as many mental snapshots as you can.”
Keyword: Mental.
Today, at every event, what do we do when something, anything, happens? We take out our phones. Nothing wrong with that, but our phones take us out of the moment. Instead of remembering the feel of the forest, surrounded by trees, listening to the rustle of branches and squirrels, the soil beneath our feet, we stare at pixels on a screen.
Instead of taking photos?
Take mental snapshots.
In the moment make an effort to experience what you’re experiencing. To remember what you want to remember. The colors of the flowers, the scent of her hair, the swell of the music as all your loved ones rise on cue.
And this isn’t only about weddings:
- New Year’s Eve.
- The July 4th BBQ.
- Saturday morning with your family.
Every day is full of snapshot-worthy moments if only you had the eyes to see. So put your phone away —
No, better yet, take a quick picture and then put your phone away. Let that be YOUR cue to take another mental snapshot.
Your life will thank you.
