Is it more than just making money?

HOORAY!!!! I have finally reached over 100+ followers.

Even though I follow more than 300+ people, not everyone follows me, but I am still grateful for everyone who follows me. Thank you!!!!

I know many people are here on medium to make money, and having 100+ followers is one of the requirements. However, some members in certain countries do not have this privilege. But, let me tell you that making money is not the only advantage of being on medium, because medium offers many other advantages.

Since I am new here and still discovering them, I can only list below what I’ve discovered so far.

1.) Connecting with people from all over the world — Since it is a website, which anyone can join for a small fee ($5 a month), people from all over the world can join and you can follow anyone whom you think is of interest to you and vice versa.

2.) You learn a lot — Yes, medium is a platform where people can openly air their views, their ideas and also their opinions freely. As a result, you are free to agree, applaud (up to 50 claps) and also comment on any articles or comments. In that way, you get to interact with others and at the same time make friends and learn from one another

3.) Other money-making platforms — Yes, medium.com is not the only platform where you can write to make money. There are others and people put that information here on medium. So for those in countries where medium does not let you make money, you can use those platforms to write articles and make money.

4.) Educating others — We all have various passions in life. Mine are history, animal and environmental rights. I may not have the time or the means to devote a whole lot to them, but medium gives me that platform where I can quickly put my thoughts down in an article and some knowledge I’ve gained from many years of research where many people can read and get educated. If I can get even one person to view history, or the plight of animals and the environment in a different light, I would count that as a success.

5.) Learning about scams — Well, unfortunately there are unscrupulous people out there. The world has to have a share of those too. And some of our fellow medium members are gracious enough to warn us to be wary of them so that we do not fall a victim to those scammers.

6.) Tips to improve my writing — Yes, there are writers on medium.com who write articles on how to improve your writing skills and also to cater to various and diverse audiences. It is always good to write on various topics as you never know who will read and like your work and is also looking for a freelance writer and may hire you if they like your work.

7.) Job positions — If you’re looking for freelance work, medium.com can be a starting point. From the articles I’ve seen, they are mostly on getting work as a freelance writer, but there could be articles on getting other types of jobs. You just have to look.

8.) Selling products — There are articles on starting your own business and selling your products. Being your own boss without having a tyrant of a boss breathing down your back all the time is the in-thing these days and people relish having that freedom. So here’s your chance to get some ideas to start your own business.

There are many more advantages that can be listed. I’ll discover them as the months go by and I’m sure you will too. But one thing is guaranteed, a lot of hard work has to be put in to make money on medium. A lot of factors are involved. Merely writing articles is not going to get you thousands of $s, but it depends on the views, number of reads and various other factors. Most importantly, you have to have the time to write those articles. So, you’ll have to put in the time to make that dime.

But, I’m sure in the end it’ll be worth it.
