Adding Some Color To Where We Are Staying
It’s what we do.

Chris and I are currently staying in Fort Portal, Uganda. Here we are exchanging our artistic services for accommodation and lunches each day. We originally came here to paint a mural on a specific wall, but have since noticed that the concrete on the wall is wet, which will make the paint peel. So we are going to do a tile mosaic instead, which is very exciting! But first, the wall needs to be prepped (and the water issue sorted out), so we are doing some decorative painting around the property instead.
This is how we travel, mostly.
We are spreading our art around the world, and getting accommodation, and sometimes food, in exchange. We have now painted murals in numerous countries, and sometimes multiple locations within a country. It’s a great way to keep our creative juices flowing, and we don’t have to carry canvases around with us!
My first two projects here were a couple of plywood topped tables that are in their bar area. The owner just said she wanted color. Lucky for her, color is my specialty! The lead photo shows one, and below is the other.
Tip: Always clean and sand your surfaces really well before painting!

I love when I am given free rein to just create. It’s not often that the owner doesn’t really have a theme or direction in mind. Usually, we have to work together with them to create something that they ultimately want. But when I am given free rein to just go, I have a lot of fun!

I also noticed that the chairs in the same room were looking a little plain, especially since they had such fun fabric on the cushions. I decided to pull some of the design out of the fabric, and painted my interpretation on the wooden parts. I think they turned out pretty cool.

Chris is currently working on three pillars in the main area of the restaurant. He is painting vines growing on the poles that will eventually be covered in flowers! Knowing how well he paints flowers, I know these will look awesome!

I have also started another table top. There are a few around that need to be done, so I will be kept busy, that is for sure.

We are so grateful to have made a life for ourselves that allows us to express our creativity in this way. By sharing our art with others, we know that bit by bit, we are bringing love and happiness to the world.
Thanks for following along on our creative journey. If you are a visual artist, please consider joining my publication Share Your Creativity. I would LOVE to see what YOU create!
