To be successful at any task, you require one juicy ingredient.

You need consistency.

Maybe you are establishing a new business or working on a side gig. It might be a big project or a small goal.

Don't give up after two weeks. Don't give up after two months.

You need to show up day after day, do the same thing and work towards your goal. Success comes from hard work.

If you want to improve your strategy and chances of success, add consistency.

How Do I Be Consistent?

To set yourself up for success, check out these steps.

1. Prioritize the tasks.

Decide on which tasks you want to focus on first and work through them one at a time. Do you want to establish your new blog first? Or do you want to set up your small online business?

2. Set SMART goals

After you have your tasks set in order of importance, set SMART goals for your first task. If you want to establish your blog, set a goal for it. Make sure to satisfy all the requirements of a SMART goal.

If you are not familiar with the acronym, SMART stands for:

Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic Time-Bound

3. Set a schedule for being consistent

Now you are ready to set up your schedule for doing the work.

Here’s An Example

If you are reading this article, there’s a high chance that you are also a writer on Medium. Check out this example.

Prioritize I want to focus on establishing my new blog on Medium. This is most important to me right now.

SMART Goal I want to have 500 followers on my blog by March 2022. My secondary goal will be to publish 3 blogs per week between January to March 2022.

Set A Schedule I will dedicate 3 hours a day to write. This includes brainstorming, reading for inspiration, drafting and editing.

Review Your Strategy

When you have a game plan outlined, you set yourself up for success.

But you also need to re-evaluate your strategy.

You are being consistent by publishing 3 blogs per week. But are you consistent enough to allow your blog to gain traction by March 2022?

If not, maybe the answer would be to publish one blog every day.

To see how I applied this strategy, let’s use Medium as an example again.

I started by publishing one blog a week, which I thought was consistent. But while reading and researching, it clearly was not consistent enough. I did not gain enough traction.

I revised my plan and started posting one to three blogs on a daily basis. When I adopted this strategy, I saw immediate results.

I showed up every single day. And I started to earn my first dollar!

When Consistency Does Not Work

If you have been consistent for years at what you're doing and not seeing success, you need to ask yourself one question.

Are you doing this for money or because you enjoy it?

If success or earning money is not your objective, continue with it as a hobby.

If you're not enjoying it and consistency is not working for you, then it might be time to try something else.

Takeaway Tips

The key takeaway is to make sure you consistently show up.

Put in your best effort to respect your own time.

  • Add consistency to your strategy for success
  • Set yourself up for success by prioritizing tasks, setting SMART goals and creating a schedule
  • Use periodic touchpoints to evaluate your strategy
  • If consistency isn't working, ask yourself why you are chasing after this goal
  • If necessary, make modifications to your strategy
  • If you aren't enjoying the task and not seeing success, it might be time to try something else. Know when to let go.

Let me know how consistency has helped you! I'd love to hear about it!
