Adapt this mindset if you want to improve your writing

If you want to become a better writer, I think the right mindset plays a crucial role.
In the self-development world, there are two main mindsets:
- A growth mindset
- A fix mindset
At first sight, everybody thinks that they know the difference between these without even thinking. However, we have to be very careful, as sometimes we unconsciously switch from one mindset to the other.
Let’s have a closer look at the 2 mindsets and their main attributes.
A FIX mindset
Writers with a fixed mindset believe that their writing skills are mostly fixed. A ‘skill’ that they learned, either by practice in the past or by experiencing some degree of success in the past.
They are the writers who always write about the same topics (that once worked for them).
They are convinced that this is their path and never shy away from writing about something new.
The writer who writes with a fixed mindset, maybe even without realizing it, will stay away from topics that he or she is not comfortable with.
‘Not’ writing about lesser-known topics, will prevent writing failures and/or more importantly: potential reader judgment and bad reviews.
Key Characteristics of a Fixed Mindset

- They avoid challenges
People with a fixed mindset tend to avoid challenges because they fear failure.
2. They get bored very fast if they do not see direct results
In the face of setbacks, individuals with a fixed mindset are more likely to give up easily. They see failure as a confirmation of their lack of writing skills
3. They cannot handle criticism
Criticism is often taken personally by individuals with a fixed mindset, as they perceive it as a judgment of their intrinsic worth, rather than an opportunity for improvement.
4. They do not like the success of other writers
Instead of being inspired by the success of others, individuals with a fixed mindset often feel threatened or envious, as they see others’ achievements as a reflection of their personal inadequacies.
The Growth Mindset

On the contrary, individuals with a growth mindset believe that their writing skills can be developed through dedication, effort, and learning from their mistakes.
They see challenges as opportunities to learn and grow, embracing the journey of improvement.
Key Characteristics of a Growth Mindset
- They embrace challenge
For them, difficult writing topics are opportunities for growth and development. They see bad articles as temporary obstacles that can be overcome with effort, perseverance, and time.
2. They rarely give up
Those with a growth mindset have much more patience. They understand that getting better at writing often involves facing difficulties and setbacks and they remain dedicated to their writing goals.
3. They keep writing
They understand that mastery and improvement require consistent effort and practice, even if they are not good at writing in the beginning.
4. They can handle criticism well
They use the bad critiques of their readers as a tool for learning and improvement.
5. They are inspired by good articles
Rather than feeling threatened by the success of others, those with a growth mindset are inspired and motivated by it. They see others’ achievements as proof of what is possible through dedication and effort.
Conclusion
Always be careful of the pitfalls of a fixed mindset, while writing articles. Write what you are passionate about, but also switch it up from time to time. Never give up!
Research a new topic, one that you are not familiar with. Experience how that impacts your writing.
The amazing thing is that each time we start typing an article, we get to have a completely new life, regardless of what we wrote before.
That is why I love writing so much!
Thanks for reading, please leave me a clap and comment, it will mean the world to me!
