Summary

Research indicates that wearing glasses can negatively impact perceptions of attractiveness, confidence, and intelligence, despite cultural variations in the connotations of eyewear.

Abstract

A study published by Cureus in March 2022 reveals that individuals wearing glasses are often perceived as less attractive and confident compared to when they are not wearing glasses. This perception extends to intelligence, where glasses-wearers are typically seen as less intelligent in most countries, with a few exceptions such as France. The research, highlighted by writer Annie Wegner, suggests that societal biases against glasses-wearers could influence social dynamics, particularly during formative years. The article also touches on the personal choices of creators like Jessica Wildfire and Mike Lewis, who opt to avoid glasses in their public images, reflecting a broader societal preference that even influences the use of stock images in media.

Opinions

  • The author, Annie Wegner, implies that the societal standards of attractiveness can unfairly stigmatize glasses-wearers.
  • There is a suggestion that the choice to wear glasses or contacts can significantly alter public perception.
  • The article conveys a hope that future generations will not face the same biases related to glasses-wearing.
  • The author points out that mainstream stock images tend to exclude people wearing glasses, reinforcing the bias.
  • The research indicates cultural differences in the perception of glasses, with some cultures associating them with higher socio-professional status.
  • The writer expresses a personal stance against the unfair judgment of individuals based on their need for corrective eyewear.

According to Science, The Least Desirable Male And Female Face

Super shocking.

Researchers confirmed a fact some of you knew long ago.

The pain is too real.

I know. This quality makes classmates outcasts. I hope the next-gen doesn’t face this challenge, especially in their developmental years.

It is probable you also have this view of these face card types. No, it’s not a personality trait. But it is a characteristic you have gained because of your love for writing or technology. Or it's just plain genetics at work.

Okay, what is the least desirable face of males and females?

The deliberate choice to hide it

Research says people are less desirable because of how they can see.

That’s still ambiguous. I’ll explain.

Recently, I learned Jessica Wildfire wears glasses. In the past, I also found out Mike Lewis owns a pair of spectacles. Many Velma Dinkley(s) abound in the writing world and elsewhere.

Jessica said it was a deliberate choice not to wear glasses in her display pic.

Many male and female creators also make a deliberate choice to wear contacts over specs.

It would change how you view them. You may not think of every glasses wearer as “less attractive”. But your assumptions about them change.

  • Intelligent
  • Screen lover
  • Dorky

Did you notice mainstream, overused stock images do not include someone wearing glasses? Here is what the researchers discovered.

The Research

Researchers did a study, and Cureus published it in March 2022.

The paper said wearing glasses could make you appear less attractive. People were also less confident while wearing glasses.

The researchers also learned cultural views of spectacles differ. In most countries, glasses make onlookers perceive people as less intelligent. In a few countries, like France, eyeglasses get associated with “higher socio-professional status,”.

The findings.

“The pictures where people were not wearing glasses had “significantly higher ratings for all domains” when they were compared with photos of the same people with glasses. When it came to attractiveness, most photos of participants without glasses yielded “significantly higher attractiveness scores.” — Best Life.
