Accept It, Republican Politicians Don’t Give a Damn About You

From the stimulus package, health, voter suppression, and policing, let’s face it they don’t care

According to Deloitte, Gallup, Governing.com, USA Today, Statista, and Heritage.com, the most concerning problems Americans will face in 2021 are:

  • The Economy
  • Health
  • The government
  • Voter Suppression
  • Policing

But it seems that Republicans don’t give a damn about them. They are more focused on their jobs or their donors than on solving your problems.

On the Economy

Families living in poverty need the stimulus checks as much as air and now are desperate to receive them in the mail.

Nevertheless, this seems irrelevant for the Republicans because every GOP member in the Senate voted against the bill. Since they all earn more than the $75,000 a year limit on who is eligible to receive the full stimulus amount, they didn’t care how long it took to pass the bill.

Republican Senators seem always to be more interested in helping their big corporate donors than the rest of their constituency. According to the Associated Press, President Donald Trump’s coronavirus small business loans helped more than 100 companies owned or operated by major donors to his campaign.

Sen. Mitch McConnell and his minions voted 51 to 49 to approve the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, considered the largest tax overhaul in over three decades.

Trump promised this tax bill would help workers and be rocket fuel for the economy when in reality, the people in the highest income layer received 60% of the savings and paid a lower tax rate than other groups. Benefiting only the shareholders, top executives, and CEOs.

The GOP has been openly against the unions. Now Democrats just passed the new Expansion of Labor Rights bill, which protects workers trying to organize in 27 states, bolstering their unionization ability.

It protects workers seeking to form a union from retribution or firing, punishes employers who violate workers’ rights and makes it harder for companies like Uber and Lyft to classify workers as independent contractors and stop them from unionizing.

Even though President Joseph Biden declared it is a necessary step towards the recovery, it is hard to think that Republican Senators won’t filibuster the proposal or that ten GOP members will align with Democrats to approve this bill.

On Health

Republican members opposed and attempted to repeal Obamacare, and during the pandemic, while millions of Americans lost their jobs and hence their insurance, they still say no to Medicare for All.

Now, Democrats control both chambers, and many of them are pushing forward to revive it. If this happens, Congress will pass the bill, and we most certainly will see how the Senate Republicans filibuster it.

They are calling it radical or socialist. Never mind that countries like France, Germany, Switzerland, or Israel, who are republic or democratic governments, and constitutional or parliamentary monarchies, like Canada, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, have some plan like this.

The GOP will still call this bill the last step towards socialism while allowing pharmaceutical companies to charge for a shot of insulin at an average price in the U.S. of $98.70, while it is $12.00 in Canada and $7.52 in the UK. If you search for the answer, follow the money.

A study realized by the National Center for Biotechnology Information shows that the pharmaceutical and health product industries spent $4.7 billion, from 1999 to 2018, on lobbying the US federal government.

Perhaps you’ll say that at least half of this money doesn’t go only to Republicans, and you are right, but Democrats are the ones promoting Medicare for all.

On the Government

People have complained about the authorities for ages, there is always some group standing against their leaders, but in the US, it is now on the highest level.

Both parties have lost the will to agree with each other. Almost every resolution is now completely partisan, with the party in the majority deciding. There is no more bipartisan governing.

Not even 100 days have passed since Biden’s presidency started, and Republicans are already campaigning for the next elections.

GOP aspirants mingled with the most prominent financial donors in Florida, joining the activities during the weekend of Feb. 9–11, 2021, including a dinner hosted by Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate and several fundraiser events for candidates.

On Friday 9th, there was a lunch fundraiser at Trump’s club to benefit Sen. Marco Rubio's 2022 reelection campaign, also others for gubernatorial candidates Sarah Sanders and Sen. Rand Paul.

The main event was a 400-person banquet on Saturday night, including a one-hour speech by Trump. The Republican National Committee organized this soiree with a price tag of more than $100,000.

“This is a conclave of Republican finance influencers, If you’re looking at running for president, you’re going to be there.” — Doug Heye. GOP political strategist.

As for the other candidates assisting the event where Trump blasted against former Vice President Mike Pence and Sen. McConnell, it’s going to be interesting what the minority leader says when they ask for his support.

On Voting Rights

There is an ongoing debate about companies threatening to move their business from the state of Georgia because of the new voting access restrictions. Gov. Brian Kemp says it’s not intended to disenfranchise people of color. Still, it looks like a Jim Crow law.

Among others, Coca-Cola, Delta, UPS, and Home Depot are making public statements opposing this bill. Gov. Kemp is arguing that the accusations are wrong. He is trying to minimize the damage, saying that the people can take or receive water and food while they wait in line as long as they are outside the 150 feet boundary of a polling location.

In an interview with Chris Wallace, the Governor said the bill increases the early voting days on weekends and can deposit the ballots in other precincts. He refused to admit limiting the number of boxes in black voters’ predominant places, and he is unwilling to reverse the bill.

All these efforts seem to target Black and young Democrat voters from expressing their opinions and to prevent a new blue wave.

Also, Sen. McConnell called on these companies to stay out of politics, saying they should focus on their business. Maybe Mitch is getting a little senile, forgetting that these companies can also focus their donation money on other places and not the GOP.

On Policing

If the events that happened this week weren’t so tragic, it could be part of a movie. On Monday, Apr. 12, 2021, Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old African American, died after being shot by a police officer in Minneapolis, alleging an “accidental discharge of a firearm.”

The Officer says he was going for the taser but grabbed the firearm. The police department released a video from a body camera showing an officer yelling, “Taser, Taser, Taser,” and then, “Oh shit, I shot him.” This event sparked protests in the state.

A New York Times review of 15 other cases of so-called weapon confusion over the past 20 years showed that only five of the officers were indicted.

In other news, U.S. Army Second Lieutenant Caron Nazario filed a lawsuit against the Windsor Police Department in VA after officers pulled him over because his new SUV lacked a permanent license plate.

Officers Joe Gutierrez and Daniel Crocker held Nazario at gunpoint, pepper-sprayed, struck, handcuffed him, and threatened his career if he made this event public. On what you could call another case of “driving while Black.”

Also, Pharrell’s Williams Cousin Donovan Lynch was shot dead by police in Virginia Beach. The police said that they saw Lynch with a gun hours before they killed him. But according to his father, he was carrying a licensed gun in his pocket since he owned a security firm.

So, when is the Government going to say enough is enough and end these police “mistakes/accidents?”

In Summary

As you can see, the last score proves no matter what they promise during their campaign or the eloquent speeches about how much they care for the American people.

And now they are even denying the January 6th events and aligning to Trump and his rigged election lie.

In the end, they always vote to favor corporate America, either in the oil, pharmaceutical, firearms, or construction industries. When it’s time to choose between their big donor companies and you, they will always vote against your interests.
