Abyssinian Cats
The sacred cat of Egyptian Pharaohs!

Christmas wish!
I’ve got a bit of a dilemma. My grandson is set on getting an Abyssinian cat for Christmas, and I’m unsure how to make it happen. These cats are known for their beauty but are also quite pricey. ($1,200 to $3,000!)
Luckily, I researched and found helpful information to educate him about these magnificent felines.
Characteristics of cats in general:
Most cats are not only cute and cuddly but also among the most intelligent animals on the planet. Their brain structure is strikingly similar to that of some of the smartest creatures in the animal kingdom.
Psychology Today reports that a cat’s cerebral cortex, responsible for managing rational decision-making and complex problem-solving, consists of approximately 300 million neurons!
The Abyssinian cat:
Is a feline wonder having quite a mysterious story! Some people believe they were once worshipped as the “sacred cat of Egyptian Pharaohs,” while others think they were created in Britain through the breeding of silver and brown tabbies with “ticked” coats.
But here’s the thing that makes them stand out: Abyssinian cats are considered to be the brainiest cats around!
These curious little creatures are top-notch detectives, always sniffing around and investigating everything. So, if you’re looking for a feline companion that’s both intelligent and inquisitive, an Abyssinian might just be the perfect pet for you!
Best of all, these feline friends are fiercely independent and love nothing more than a good puzzle toy to keep their minds sharp. But don’t be fooled by their active nature — when they want love and attention from their owners, they slow down and become the ultimate lap cats. They are typically kid-friendly, playful, and get along well with other cats.
Abyssinian cats have a striking resemblance to the ancient Egyptian cat statues. With their sleek and elegant profile, these felines are a sight to behold! Even more intriguing is their unique ticked coats that come in exotic shades, adding to the breed’s mysterious aura. And let’s not forget about their large and expressive eyes that can captivate anyone who locks eyes with them. These cats are beautiful!
Abyssinians are usually outgoing and active and love being the center of attention. However, they do have a shy side to their personalities. When strangers arrive, Abyssinian cats often hide. & reappear once they feel comfortable.
One of the best things about Abyssinian cats is that they develop a close bond with their families. They love spending time with their humans and enjoy snuggling up with them. However, they may not be the best of friends with dogs and large birds. So, if you’re thinking of getting an Abyssinian cat, make sure to introduce them to your other pets slowly.
Coats & colors of the Abyssinian:
These adorable creatures come with a medium hair-length coat that can be found in various shades of ruddy, red, fawn, and blue. The females are generally smaller, weighing around 6–8 pounds, while the males are a bit bigger, weighing between 7–10 pounds. They can be your furry companion for up to 15 years!

My thoughts and plan:
It would be unwise to spend a large sum of money on a specific breed of cat when many adorable cats are available for adoption at the animal shelter. The high cost of this breed may discourage the boy, so it’s best to consider other options.
