About Ukraine’s Future & Trends For Global Food Manufacturing in 2024

Ukraine’s President Zelensky was back in the headlines this week during the Unity Day celebration in Ukraine. He announced a new legislation proposal that would allow the country to readily accept Ukrainian nationalities residing abroad to settle in the country, known as dual-national legislation.
It was an unexpected dynamic for most people following the Russia-Ukraine war, but I question whether this legislation proposal will have any impact on the war’s outcome. If anything, it intends to increase Ukraine’s soft power during an extremely turbulent time in International Affairs.
What will this outcome mean for the 2024 US elections? Probably nothing at all. I think most people have accepted the fact that the US is turning its attention to the Middle East and Red Sea, as the country’s maritime security imperatives are taking center stage in the headlines recently.

In the last couple of weeks I have focused all of my attention on China. For instance, I wrote about why everyone should be focused on China’s relations with the world after the 2024 Taiwan elections and other current affairs this year.
But this week I wanted to focus on Ukraine, and particularly since one of my favorite Medium writers wrote a very engaging piece about President Zelensky’s decision to change the dual-nationality legislation during the Unity Day celebration in Ukraine this week.
Now, here are my thoughts on the story.
“If they did return home, would they even be welcome?
I have had the same disarming thoughts about today’s six million plus Ukrainian refugees. So many of them have been displaced by this war and are living as guests in foreign countries. Not knowing how long until it will be safe to go home, many of them are creating new lives in a new country.”
Ukraine will have to go through a fierce period of re-building after a prolonged period militarization and warfare. In this case, I imagine most people would not want to return to Ukraine right away. I was in Bulgaria last year where I met many people from Ukraine and Russia, so I don’t believe that Ukrainians will feel less safe outside of Ukraine. On the other hand, I did not get the sense that there were many opportunities for them there, either. They might feel compelled to return to Ukraine if there are not any other worthwhile opportunities outside of Ukraine. It’s very likely that with today’s global economic concerns that many Ukrainians would feel more comfortable going back to Ukraine to pursue a life in their home country, especially if they still have family members or a network residing there.

One of the world’s leading food and beverage companies, Nestlé, was in the news this week thanks to an update on the advanced manufacturing facility in Glendale, Arizona. According to local reports, Nestlé intends to launch this facility in one of the growth corridors of Arizona, West Valley, aiming to complete the construction stage and begin manufacturing operations by the end of 2024.
The company officially released its plans for the manufacturing facility in Arizona on 9 March 2022 when the company’s American subsidiary, Nestlé USA, announced that it would contribute a $675 billion investment into the Glendale manufacturing facility for coffee-creamer products, such as the Coffee mate, Coffee mate natural bliss, and Starbucks brands.
After the announcement, President of Beverage at Nestlé USA Daniel Jhung explained why this latest investment by Nestlé in Arizona was important to the company’s business strategy:
“Beverages play an increasingly important role in the lives of consumers, a trend that’s been accelerated by the pandemic and is expected to continue to grow. This investment illustrates our continued commitment to leading and growing categories where we play, providing consumers with a variety of high-quality, innovative products to meet their needs.”
