About Me — Sarah E. Sturgis
A little bit about me
Hi, my name is Sarah and I am a writer here on Medium. I mostly write poetry, but I do write short stories as well. I have always loved to write, ever since I was a small child. Reading and writing have been dear friends to me over the years. I’m one of those people who has tons of books and not enough room for them all. A good book is priceless. A library of good books is heaven. I’ve always dreamed of having a large library like on Beauty And The Beast. How I would love that! I have not yet published a book, myself. But I dream of it! Perhaps a book of poetry, or maybe I could publish one of my short stories. Ideas, ideas…

I am mother to a cat named Tyrion, a two-year-old brown tabby that loves to play outside. Other than him, I do not have any children. And at 37 it’s looking less and less likely that I will. But I am content. This little rascal gives me plenty to do! He is very much like a toddler, and sometimes too smart for his own good, he fills me with joy and laughter.

Another love of mine is music! I have been a musician almost my whole life. I started playing violin at age 6 and have taught myself other instruments along the way. These days I teach violin to beginners. It is a rewarding profession, fun and challenging. I do so enjoy it! In the past I have played in bands, for weddings, in string quartets, etc. My musical resume is well-versed. And my soul is at its happiest when I am doing something musical. It’s just embedded in me, like part of my code, part of my hard-drive. If you are musical then you will understand. It’s like a language that speaks to you; a language you understand.

I am one of two children and the oldest of the two. My younger brother is my best friend. We are close in age, only two years apart, so we can relate well with each other. We do not live close though, so we only get to see each other for holidays and special occasions. Though one day I imagine I will live close to him, somewhere up in the mountains. It is a blessing to be close to your siblings. I know I am surely blessed to have the brother I have! We all have someone we lean on when times get tough. For me, that has always been my brother. Family is important, and not just at the holidays but year round. We are blessed with our families and should never take them for granted. Not everyone is so lucky.

I will wrap up with some of my favorite pieces I’ve written over the last year or so. I started using Medium in August 2019 and have been posting regularly since. If I were to pick one piece to represent me, it would be this poem I wrote called Her Heart Was Kindness. It is a poem about kindness and unconditional love, two very important topics.
While we’re on the topic of kindness, here’s another piece I wrote called Kindness Matters. It’s not a poem, nor is it a short story, but just a piece of writing that I hope resonates with you. If you’d like a short story instead, here is a long short-story called The Traveler. It will take you a little while to read, and it’s not yet complete but yet an ongoing story.
Another piece I like is this one called Have You Ever Lived Inside A Moment? It’s about finding peace in a single moment, finding your contentment in the small.
Here’s a piece about spring showers. It’s short but a good one!
And lastly, here’s a piece about my cat, Tyrion. I wrote this poem November 26th, 2019. He is my little buddy, my baby, and I sure do love him! I’m grateful for all the love he bestows on me. He keeps things interesting!
To close, I am a writer to the soul. I may not be published yet, but I have ideas. And some of those ideas can be useful and fun to share. I hope you have enjoyed getting to know me a little bit and liked reading my stories! Leave me a line about yourself! Send me the link to your page! I would enjoy sharing our verse!
