About Me — Naomi Boshari
I’ve always considered myself a lost soul.

“Who Am I?” in a Nutshell
I’ve always been a writer. In high school, my yearbook quote was, “Someday, somebody’s going to be quoting me.”
I know, a bit cringe-y. But now, nearly ten years later, it’s pretty cool to say that quote has kind of actually come true.
Up until just this summer, I was an editor and regular contributor for an online magazine. Now, I’m a freelance writer and editor while doing a master’s in Creative and Critical Writing in London, UK. I’m Canadian born and raised but I’ve always felt called to this part of the world.
Before London, I lived in Dublin, Ireland for two years. Even though I’m not Irish (I have British/Israeli heritage), Ireland had always been a childhood dream of mine. I just love the music, the culture, the people, the “craic,” and the landscape. But I only got about six months there before the pandemic hit and everything went into lockdown.

How I Got to Where I Am
I’ve always considered myself a lost soul. Even though I’m doing what I love, I still don’t know what the future holds.
When I graduated undergrad with a degree in English Literature (I wanted to study creative writing but my parents thought English Lit would be more “practical”), I had no idea what I was going to do. I decide to take some time off and backpack solo across central Europe, but when I came home, I was unemployed and honestly pretty depressed for months.
Finally, I got a job in HR through a recruitment agency and worked there for about a year and a half before I knew I was not where I was meant to be.
I quit my job with no plan and only the desire to “be a writer.” It was probably a little naive, but I had savings and an undying passion! What could go wrong?
Well, I ended up lending someone money who was unable to pay me back, had no idea how to get freelance clients, no income, and I had to pick up a serving job to pay rent.
Before that, I’d enrolled in a writing course. Right when it felt like everything was hopeless, they hired me out of the program. I had the interview on the Monday and started working that Wednesday.
It felt like I had finally found my place.
Over those years, I gained a lot of experience, connections, and most importantly, the confidence to share my writing with the world.
Now, I’ve gone back to school to do the creative writing degree I always wanted. I’m freelancing, which enables me to have a flexible schedule.
I definitely do not have it all figured out by any means, but I feel like I’m on a path that is aligned with my values and the life I want to live.
