About Me — Nanie Hurley
I may be shy and introverted, but my passion for veganism and books and my love of learning shine bright through my writing. Or so I hope.

Hi, I’m Nanie Hurley. It’s a pleasure to meet you.
As my short bio says. I’m a “bookworm, gamer, mom, copywriter, vegan, and human. I write about things that bring me joy.”
As a copywriter, something inside me really wants to write this About Me post with YOU in mind. Telling you all you can find here and why you’ll like the articles I have written for you.
But for once, I’ll put on my noise-cancelling earplugs and ignore that voice. This About Me section is all about me.
I found Medium a few months ago, and since then, I have been writing here often. I write about things I like, so that’s usually the books I read, writing itself, veganism and sustainability, and a little about parenting. I’m still trying to find my voice when I write my stories, and I’m having a lot of fun doing so.
I’m a pretty boring person, with a boring life story. I was born in Brazil, and studied in public schools that were good enough. I got into college and graduated. Then, I moved to Ireland, where I live to this day. Here I found my home, I met my husband, and it’s where I’m now raising my two daughters. I’m Brazilian by birth, but my heart is a bit Irish.
I only have two children, but wow… they keep me quite busy. They’re only very young, and I like to treat them as people, so that takes a lot of commitment (and patience too!). It’s worth it, though. I love seeing them grow into two beautiful human beings completely different from myself or my husband. Although, I will admit that it melts my heart to see little bits of us parents in them. Parenting is a wild journey.
As for hobbies, I love reading, gaming, and writing. Reading books has always been one of my greatest passions. So it’s no surprise that I spend a lot of my time reading stories… At one point in my life, I had a huge library with over a thousand books. Nowadays, my library may have as many books, but they’re mostly digital ones. Moving overseas has its prices (yep, it’s more than one, and much more than financial).
I love gaming, but since having kids, I don’t have as much time for it. And I also stopped writing for quite a while, since I need space, quiet, and focus to be able to write anything. But I’m delighted that’s back in my life.
I used to do a lot of crafting. I have a lot of crochet teddies and blankets around my house. I haven’t done much of it in the last few years, but you can still see all my extra yarns on the shelves behind me in my office.
I’m a very compassionate person. Being kind is part of who I am. So it’s no surprise that I ended up becoming vegan. Removing animal-derived products from my life connected my actions to my morals, ultimately making me a happier person.
And I think that’s mostly it.
It’s nice to meet you. Tell me a bit about yourself in the comments below, and let’s grow our Medium communities together.
