About Me — Julia A. Keirns
Freelance Writer, Blogger, and Author of Children’s Books

I wrote and submitted my first article on Medium in August 2020 so I guess it is about time I said hello and introduced myself. My name is Julia A. Keirns, but you can call me Julie.
I started writing as a child. I wrote stories and illustrated them. In high school, I was the editor of the school newspaper and learned some journalism. I wrote a lot of love poems at that time in my life. Some of them were even published.
I married my best friend in 1986 and we are still best friends, and still married. We have three wonderful children who are all married with families of their own. When the kids were little I would sit up late at night and write. I had some stories and articles published in some magazines here and there.
Eventually, I took a job with the local newspaper and wrote feature stories, and covered many council and school board meetings. I have a lot of journalism credits from those years. I even had my own weekly column for a while.
I have self-published some children’s picture books and they are available on Amazon and several other places on the internet. About four years ago, I decided to go to college and get a degree. At the age of 58, I graduated from SNHU this past summer with a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and English. I learned a lot from that experience.
You can read more about me and read a lot of my writing at my website www.jakeirns.com. The website is still kind of a work in progress. I created it at the recommendation of one of my college professors and I haven’t really worked on it much lately.
I was born and raised in Ohio. I had several jobs over the years — mostly behind a desk working for someone else. My husband and I are now both retired. We sold our house and everything we own and bought an RV. We travel around the country and stay in one place a month at a time. We explore the area and immerse ourselves in the local culture. I write about our adventures and the places we see here on Medium.
We travel with our two little dogs, Forest and Rabbit. They are great little travelers and bark at everything.
We prefer to explore state parks, national parks, and wildlife refuges. We are drawn to nature. We have been from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic and down to the Gulf. I missed a lot of opportunities to write about all the places we were and the things we saw. With 2023 being a new year I decided it was a good time to begin. The juices are flowing and I love writing. I have always loved writing.
We are currently living in southern Texas for the month of January.
So, here I am. Writing about our traveling adventures, and anything else that inspires me, and hoping people enjoy reading about our adventures as much I enjoy writing about them.
Follow me and I will take you with me wherever I go.
