About Me — Jennifer K
A bold New Yorker, cancer survivor, and creative marketer

My background
I am a Korean-American who was born and raised in a diverse borough called Queens, New York. I grew up in a working-class family that has faced several financial and emotional challenges but is tough. I was shy as a child and teenager; I hated meeting new people and did not want to expand my social circle. Now, I am a 26-year-old woman who is confident, bold, and social.
My hobbies and interests
I enjoy attending events, exploring new places to eat, and watching musicals. I am a horror fanatic who loves to read thriller novels and watch suspenseful movies. My favorite physical activities include walking, jogging, and hiking. Recently, I have been learning how to cook various dishes; my favorite dish is a creamy squash casserole!
My career
Years ago, I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Communications and Media and a minor in Sociology. Currently, I am a marketer at a global book publisher in New York City.
My goals
I’d like to obtain my driver’s license; a license isn’t necessary to live in New York City, but I might move to a different city. I want to travel to more tropical destinations and become a better writer.
What inspires me to write
When I was 23 years old, and battling cancer, one of my nurses suggested blogging about my journey. Deep inside, I wanted to express my experiences and emotions, but I was afraid of putting my thoughts out there. Now, I am a healthy survivor and would like to share my crazy experiences with leukemia, mental health stories, career tips, and fun anecdotes. I look forward to reading other people’s stories and following other writers!
