I’m weird.
There’s no doubt about it.
How else do you explain the story about the rescued black cat who brought men from the past to be lovers for the single human woman who rescued her? Or the young couple sneaking off to have sex in an abandoned mansion and being joined by a ghost? Or the Duke and his maidservant who fall in love while hunting for leprachauns?
I don’t even know where these ideas come from half the time.
I sit down, I type. Words flow, or they don’t — coming in fits and starts instead as the case may be — but there’s always a story by the end of it.
Mostly I write steamy stories between two very normal*, consenting adults, set during current times. Mostly these current times ignore the realities of the strange situation this pandemic has put us in, but occasionally it sneaks in, and sometimes the couple in question are being a bit sneaky about their relationship, or there’s an extra person or two thrown into the mix. There’s a mix of genuine romance, and sometimes simply two (or more) people wanting to experience an intimate moment with no strings attached.
And then occasionally supernatural creatures slip through the cracks and suddenly I’m writing about Satyrs, and Selkies, and men brought to life by a wish.
When I’m not writing, I do what every good writer does — read. Or just, you know, get on with life; parenting, and wife-ing (yes, that is now a word!), and working. If I don’t write first thing in the morning I spend all day stressing that I don’t have any ideas, and then I sit down at my laptop at the end of the day, and search up some character names, and the story comes. But if I don’t sit down and open my laptop, the story doesn’t come. (Which author said you had to let your muse know when and where to find you? Stephen King maybe? Anyway, that definitely works for me.)
I’m a cat person because they’re independent. (Dogs are too clingy — at least all the ones I’ve ever met.) I love Halloween, and chocolate, and anything a little bit supernatural, and I love that gooey feeling inside when you fall in love, which is why I enjoy reading and writing romance. (And for many people sexual intimacy is a direct follow-on from romantic feels — which is why my stories are steamy).
