About Me — Dr Mohammad Mursalin
Data Scientist. Father of two kids. Love helping others to reach career success.

I was born in a country dealing with economic hardships, and I felt motivated to improve not only my own life but also the lives of others around me.
With determination and a strong will, I finally arrived in Australia. However, I always remain committed to giving back and providing continuous financial support to my motherland, helping uplift my community and those who still reside there.
My educational journey started in local institutions, followed by a career in an unfamiliar organisation. Love soon found me, and I joined hands with a partner from a modest family, welcoming the joys of fatherhood just two years later.
Now, at the age of 35, I have become an established professional in the field of data science, earning an impressive annual income that surpasses the industry average.
Lets begin..
My story shows how powerful dreams can be and offers hope for those who believe in themselves. So, come along as I share my life’s journey, and together, let’s explore the endless possibilities that are waiting for all of us.
Early life
The journey wasn’t easy and took many years of hard work and persistence. I faced failures, sadness, and stress.
My dad, who worked for the government, moved to a new small town every three years, so I went to different schools. Despite studying in mostly low-profile schools, I managed to secure the first position in my class until year 7.
In year 8, we finally settled in a small city and got our first permanent house. Moving to the city meant I had to take an admission test for a government school, which was quite competitive.
Fortunately, I secured a place at the school, but the environment was challenging. I found it difficult to maintain my top position, as the students were smart and familiar with the environment, often receiving higher marks than me. At times, I felt there was some bias towards the existing students who had been there since year 3.
Despite not being the top student, my neat handwriting and humble nature made some students uncomfortable.
Our house was far from the school, and transportation was scarce.
I mostly used a bicycle, taking 30–40 minutes to reach school, which was especially exhausting during hot and humid summers.
My parents noticed my struggle and tried to help by dropping me off at school in the morning and giving me 10 units of local currency for my return trip. However, the money wasn’t enough for direct transportation home.
I found a solution by taking a shared three-wheeler taxi for 4 units and a rickshaw for 6. To catch the taxi, I had to walk 2 km and wait for it to fill with passengers.
Finding a rickshaw upon reaching my destination was another challenge, sometimes taking over an hour and costing more than 6 units.
To optimise my spending, I often walked more to reduce the fare.
During those days, private tutoring was quite common for students who wanted to perform well in school, but it was also expensive.
I used to attend lessons with a teacher who charged 300 units per month for teaching science and maths. However, I felt I needed more support in maths.
One of my school friend’s uncle was a university maths student, so I approached him for private tutoring.
Since he was my friend’s uncle, I managed to negotiate a fee of 150 units per month.
To accommodate this extra expense without burdening my father, I decided to attend the other teacher’s lessons only half the time, paying him 150 units instead.
This way, I could balance my educational needs without adding financial stress to my family.
I was always conscious of my father’s financial stress, as he was the sole earner for our family of five. I didn’t want to burden him further, so I did my best to manage my expenses and contribute to the family in any way I could.
To be continued …
I’ll pause my story here, but rest assured, there are many more exciting tales to share about my university days, finding a job, and getting married. If you’re interested in hearing more, please leave a comment, and your encouragement will inspire me to continue sharing my journey in future posts.
